Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
I didn't think a bassinet was necessary...I was just going to put our little guy in his crib right away with a sleep positioner...but my DH wants a bassinet to put in our room for the first few months.
I know, it all depends on the baby...some of my friends said their babies hated the bassinet and loved the crib, others said the opposite.
What are you ladies going to do?

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
We put him straight in the crib and it worked out great for us. His room is right next to ours, so he's not too far away. We use the sleep positioner and he's been fine. I didn't want to have to deal with trying to move him from the bassinet to the crib. Good luck!

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
I put DS in his crib for naps and he sleeps in his bassinet in our room at night. I initally didnt want him in our room at all and was going to return the bassient but I was worried he would come early so I made DH put it together. Well he did come a week early but the furniture was in 3 days before he arrived and the minute I laid eyes on him I knew their was no way I could put him in his own room right away especially since the 2nd night I was in the hospital I was hysterical crying because they took him to the nursey for visiting hours. Now that 11 weeks have pasted I think it is harder for me dealing with the transition than anything so I decided when he reaches the limit of the bassinet I will move him out.

We did the same thing and never had a problem. It worked out very well.

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
i bought a co-sleeper and wound up not using it as planned...
after 2/3 days DD went straight to the crib. DH needed his sleep and having her in her crib and me taking care of her in her room in the middle of the night, minimized interrupted sleep for DH. it was hard to do, but is working great now.
the only time i use the co-sleeper now is during the day if i am in my room and i feel like having her with me while she takes a . it would be great to have if family was nearby as it's collapsible and portable, but so is the pack-n-play...

We are going with the pack n play for now....I think. The babies room is also across the hall but I want to BF so I think it would be easier to have baby in our room.

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
We plan on using the pack and play in our room to begin with since our BR is on a different floor. We will make sure we use the crib for naps, so that she gets used to the crib also. Then...we will move the pack and play to the basement since we hang out down there alot.

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
If I could do it over, I would never have gotten a bassinett, I would just have used the bassinett in the pack n play like I. am now. I feel the bassinett was a waste of money. I have him in the room in the pack n play and he sleeps much better!

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
I never bought or asked for a bassinet. My intention was to put DS straight in the crib. But after arriving from the hospital, I felt like I needed to see him next to me, so we put together the pack n play, and added the changing pad, and he sleeps in there in our room. He's almost 6 weeks now, and we're going to transition, and put him in his crib soon.

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
it really does depend on the baby....we had one in our room and she hated it. My guess is/was that she didn't like the pad that was in it and preferred a real mattress because she took to our bed really well.
You can: A: put the crb in your room and wheel it to the nursery when you are ready
B: use a pack n play in your room
C: tell dH if he wants the baby in the room with him, to go sleep in the nursery (J/K)
There are MANY moms that put the baby in the crib right away....some babies are good with it, some feel "lost" because it's such a big area and prefer the snuggliness of a bassinet/sleeping with mom and dad

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
we are going to try and go straight to the crib. also, instead of bassinet, I want to buy the bassinet stroller piece. I will get more use out of it then.

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
I knew when I was pregnant that there was no way I would be able to put her in the crib right away, I just had no idea it would take me 6 months to finally do it. We had a cradle (she didn't like that). Hated the PnP too. She slept in bed with us a while in a Snuggle Nest then we got an Amby bed for her reflux and she seemed to like that because you didn't have to lay flat. I still miss her sometimes and she's 9 months old. I can't wait until she is old enough to wake up and come into our room in the morning to snuggle.

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
My DH really really really wanted the bassinet, so we went out and bought one. I really wanted to put the baby straight into his crib, but DH keeps saying that I'll want him in his bassinet in our room.
DH wants to be prepared for either circumstance. Thanks ladies

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
My DD refused to sleep in anything but her bouncer seat until she was 3 months old. So a bassinet might not even be necessary. You have to find what works for you and your baby. I was at the point that I was willing to let her sleep in WHATEVER she would sleep in!!

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
I wanted to put the baby straight into the crib, but I got flammed for that at work and by the family (DH didn't seem to care either way.)
So I ended up with a bassinet.
Turned out we may need the bassinet regardless b/c we may not have our nursery furniture when the baby first arrives (furniture store drama that worked out to our advantage in the long run.)

Re: Anyone NOT using a bassinet?
We were going to use the crib right away but he has acid reflux so I was so parnoid to have him in his own room plus he was in NICU so I was even more parnoid that something would happen to him.
We bought a co-sleeper for upstaris and he loves it and downstairs he naps in the pack n play.
