Anyone NOT taking their kid trick or treat-ing? (toddler moms especially)

I am torn. we've already done a ton of halloween stuff...he doesn't really eat candy and it'll be dark by the time I get home.

my SIL is taking her girls but it's over in another neighborhood and their crawl is usually at least 1.5 hours...

I am really leaning against not taking him. Chat Icon

either agree with me or talk me out of being a nudge. Chat Icon

The twins and I are sick, and its so cold I decided to skip TOTing. DH is going to bring Landon to see his parents and TOT a little by their house. We also had so many Halloween events its really not necessary to go, but now that Landon is 3.5 yrs he knows what hes missing. The babies have no clue.

I think you should go. You have my address right? You can send all of your candy to me and my little twinkies will gobble it up! I promise Chat Icon

How old is your DS now? 2?

I would take him to even just 4 or 5 houses on your block. Enough to see the delight on his face and enjoy the experience a little bit.

That first year that DD1 really "got it" was so much fun for me as a mom to watch.

It's so much fun to watch them. You don't have to do a 1 1/2 hour excursion, a few houses is enough!

in brooklyn we don't have houses. we have big imposing apt building and no one knows anyone else Chat Icon Chat Icon

seriously, if we were on the block where I grew up, it would be a no brainer, but there really isn't any place for us to go on the block and taking him with my SIL will require me to cross Atlantic Avenue...which I HATE doing...much less at night and alone with the bebe (dh is working in NJ and won't be home yet)

Well our son is 3 weeks old so I'm not Chat Icon

Based on what you wrote I probably wouldn't. If I could go to a couple houses on my block yeah, but alone going far without DH nah...like you said you already did a lot of HAlloween activities nothing to feel sorry about.

We won't get home to 6:30 tonight and our plan is to go to the 3 houses on our court and then drive to Chris' moms house so she can see Athan in costume and call it a night. I am not a fan of trick-or-treating (I would much rather give out candy at home) so I feel going to a few houses so he can get a feel for it is good enough (he is 3.5 years old).

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Good!

Joey went TOTing at daycare (she lives in a court and invited all the parents) He did love it and kept saying "more treats", even though he won't be eating anything besides the preztels & goldfish Chat Icon I was surprised he semi-understood. We're going to go to a few houses around us in a little while.

I hope he has fun!!! & you too!

I don't think they REALLY enjoy it until they are like 3, KWIM?

DD is 18 months. I do not see the need. She had a party today and is wiped out. Besides, I won't let her eat the candy which means I will be eating it all! I will take her next year when she is 2 1/2. She does, however, love handing out the candy to the kids!

Re: Anyone NOT taking their kid trick or treat-ing? (toddler moms especially)

My toddlered enjoyed seeing the kids come to the house and giving them candy. I didnt feel the need to bring her trick or treating. My mom took her to the mall today and she saw lots of kids in costume there. It was plenty of halloween experiences for a 17 month old. I couldnt even get her to wear her costume. She'll enjoy it more next year.

he's 20 mos. & i tried to get him into his costume (Plex - a magic robot), but he ran... must be thinking, why is muma putting me in that thing every day? we've done a lot of halloween things already, and he doesn't eat candy...

and he is having a ball answering the door. every time the doorbell rings he yells, "coming!" Chat Icon

i know i want to! but he doesn't get it yet.

Dd is 17 months and we did not go toting. It's not wOrth it for us. We went to the library sing along and to the party in the park then came home. I wanted to take her and feel guilty but honestly she's sick and was done before we got home anyway.

Ds is15 months old and I didn't take him toting. I don't let him eat candy and I new it would be a fight so I decieded it's not worth it.

Re: Anyone NOT taking their kid trick or treat-ing? (toddler moms especially)

I hope you had fun! We went. Mine are 23 months. Honestly I figured we'd do like 5-6 houses and that would be it, but they had so.much.fun. We ended up going to like 20 houses. They loved knocking on the doors, saying "tick o teet" Chat Icon , taking a piece of candy and putting it in their bags. They had a blast seeing all the new people and walking around. Even though the candy will be going to DH's office tomorrow I did let them have their first Reece's peanut butter cups.

I was surprised how well they did and how much fun we had. Can't wait for next year!

Chat Icon

I sat by the door waiting with a bowl of candy like I always do thinking something is going to happen every other apt has a kid.... DH came home and told me one of the neighbors told him all the kids left to trick or treat in Queens. Chat Icon

Honestly I don't feel like doing it, if DS doesn't know the difference.
