not for nothing but prenatal contain dha which is very important for brain development I would suggest getting a new dr or go to walmart and buy there prenatal over the counter and buy that exspecta with dha I think that anyone PG should be taking prenatal the foods that you are eating are not enough to support you and baby i am not sure though what is in the cetrum it just doesnt sound right but this is just a suggestion...I take primacare they have dha in them so there is only one pill and i dont do well with meds i throw everything up and these dont bother me at all good luck
My prescription prenatals do not contain DHA.
is there an separate pill with you prenantal not all contain it but they sometimes come in another pill I would ask you Dr about it it was highly recommended by my perinatologist
mine do, I take a prenatal and it also comes with a clear pill with omega 3 ( no fish oils) DHA. I took it for 5 months but they repeated on me badly so I am back on cal-nate, what I took with DD. they dont repeat on me, I still have my prescription for the other ones I think I will switch it up.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
well, prenatals have higher levels of some vitamins and lower levels of vit A than centrum Personally, I think his rationale (that a woman would get 'turned off' by an upset stomach or large pill size) is sort of lame. you're a a big girl and can swallow a vitamin! I think you should talk to him again and ask to be put on some sort of prenatal... I'm on target brand and it has NEVER made me sick. the pill isn't soooo big. I'm also taking expecta DHA since I have a fish allergy and can't take another DHA supplement or eat anything with omega 3's.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
I never took prenatals during my pregnancy as I had some iron issues and I had a beautiful healthy baby.

Uhh, yeah, so, I had hyperemis and I never took my prenatals. I still have the box from the first prescription that I filled. My doctor said it was fine and that prenatal was for me and the baby got everything from me first.
Everyone's doctor tells them different things for different reasons.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
The nurse at my Drs office and I were talking about not taking prenatals recently. She said that many Drs don't insist you take them as long as you are eating right and getting everything you need. I HAVE to take them b/c I don't eat ANY fruit and limited veggies so I wouldn't feel comfotable not taking them.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP- Update
Thanks for all your support and help. So i have spoke to the Dr. again, did some research and spoke to some family RN Nurses. And, well, it appears that every doctor is different (as you can also see from the many posts on this topic also). Mostly what is important, if possible, is that you are getting most of the needed nutrients from what you eat (fruits, vegetables, protein, fiber, calcium) and luckily enough i have been the best eater i have ever been since i have been pregnant. When i found out i was pregnant that was one of the first things i asked the Dr. ...what am i supposed to eat to have a healthy baby??? The Dr. was impressed with my question!!! Anyway so being that i am a healthy eater, for right now Centrum has what i need for a healthy pregnancy. And mind you i have not taken any prenatals and pretty much had the best first 12 weeks of this pregnancy!!!. NO Morning Sickness at all, rarely any nausea, and just some tiredness. So in the end i am happy with my decision and thanks to all of you for you support and answers.

glad you are happy with your decision and conversation with your doctor. you have to do what you feel is best.
i really like my prenatals. i take the citranatal and it comes with a DHA/Omega supplement that is not fish based. i'm a huge fan of omega supplements, both for our sake and for the baby's development. if my prenatal didn't come with the omega supplement, i would still be taking the omega 3-6-9!

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
To me no matter how healthy a person eats, a ton of nutrients are lost during distribution and process and knowing that b/c its for my baby and really not for me, I would want to do and take all that I can. Its a personal choice. I do take them and dont have any nauseous, seldomly tired, have a ton of energy, no bloat, I feel great and as much as I am eating better due to my pg, I know I do not eat healthy 100% of the time or day.

sounds like your doc is full of shiit. This sounds very strange to me.
Age doesn't matter when going on prenatals. I'd go on them anyway.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
I go to a different doctor in your practice and he didn't have me start prenatals right away when I was pregnant. I think I was almost done with the first trimester when I started them. And my daughter was born healthy and has been for a whole year! As long as your trust your doctor, and you know yourself, do what is right for you!

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
Dr. Dilena was one of the DR's in my old practice (I moved away and he switched practices)
Anyway...I didn't have many appointments with him and was disappointed that he was on call when I went into labor (just cause I didn't know him well). BUT I ended up LOVING him. He was excellent during the delivery and made me feel soooo at ease.
Can't comment on the prenatals except that I was put on them right away in his old practice by another Dr.
