Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
My Doctor has stated that being i am young (26) he feels that starting on prenatals too soon can turn a person off to them because they are very big pills that often make people sick and then woman forget to take them or don’t take them at all due to the side effects. My Dr. has had me on Centrum since i have found out i am pregnant and has not changed me over yet (I am 12 weeks today). He said i was young and healthy and no worries. I know so many people that have gone to this Dr. (Dr. Dilena in Garden City) But i am worried...Thoughts

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
hmmm, this is very odd. 26 is young, but not that young. I've heard women as young as 17 take prenatals. In fact, after my first apt, I walked out with a shopping bag full of free samples of other brands of prenatals.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
I am 26 also, and my doc had me on prenatals immediately. I get the over the counter type from CVS. They are called Life Fitness Prenatal Multi. THey are fairly small (smaller than a centrum) and have no taste/aftertaste and also inexpensive.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
That is wierd. I don't think its an age thing as far as being turned off my them. I am 36 pg with my 3rd and they still make me gag just looking at them. I would ask your doc again if you would feel more comfortable taking them. I take them before bed.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
Hmm I never heard that. I am 27. I was however, in my first tri having a hard time takign the pills , I would throw them up bc I just couldnt keep anything down in general so my dr told me to take flinstone vitamins, they were just as fine. I am back on the prenatals now.
My doc said the most important thing is that you are getting enough folic acid. I guess the centrum has enough

D~take the prenatal vitamins. I've never heard of that before? Every pregnant women should be on prenatals, if anything,it is going to benefit you and the baby NOT harm you.
Hope this helps...:)

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
This is surprising...I am also 26 and my doctor put me on prenatals right away plus also prescribed extra folic acid to take besides them. Yes the vitamins are large and they do make me want to gag most of the time but from what I've been taught they are important for the baby's development.
I take my prenatals before I go to bed and they do not make me sick and they are 2 large pills.

I was also put folic acid as well as my husband, before we conceived. I have to say, I LOVE my prenatals, I started taken them months before we conceived, they even have a good after taste....lol I use CITRANATAL.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
I take citra natal and blah I dont like the after taste especially of the omega 3 pill we take along with the prenatal vit.
every dr is different, I think from what I was told and read its the folic acid thats important- it prevents birth defects.

The only vitamins I do not throw up are Gummy Vites (gummy bears). My OB is totally ok with this, though Prenatal vitamins were definitely preferred.
Unfortunately, it has given me a real taste for Gummy Bears - something I never liked before, but now I feel like I could consume the whole bottle of vitamins!

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
not for nothing but prenatals contain dha which is very important for brain development I would suggest getting a new dr or go to walmart and buy there prenatals over the counter and buy that exspecta with dha I think that anyone PG should be taking prenatals the foods that you are eating are not enough to support you and baby i am not sure though what is in the cetrum it just doesnt sound right but this is just a suggestion...I take primacare they have dha in them so there is only one pill and i dont do well with meds i throw everything up and these dont bother me at all good luck

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
I am 23 (24 in about 3 weeks) & My doctor also gave free samples of different brands of prenatals. Some are smaller than others. I was also taking over the cunter prenatals while TTC. He said I can continue those if I don't want to pay for the expensive prescription prenatals.
Discuss your concerns withi him @ your next visit. The need for prenatals should not depend on your age.

Re: Anyone not on Prenatals?? HELP
I always thought the prenatals had a higher dosage of certain vitamins that reg. vitamins, due to the fact your taking for 2 people.. and one is in the process of developing. Like extra folic acid.. which a baby needs for brain development. but i could be wrong.

This is what I though too but I actually never held non prenatals and prenatals next to each other to find out
