Anyone just feel defeated?

Some days I feel like my child, husband, and job only get 30% of me--making me a bad mother, bad wife, and bad employee. Sometimes I wonder why I haven't been fired.

My husband is a big help, my baby is so good, I try to get as much done the night before as possible...but we're always rushing around, the house is never clean, I have very little QT with my husband, I'm behind on my work...I knew it would be this way at first but a year later it still sucks. Did I sign up for 18 years of this????

I don't know what I'm looking for--just a vent I guess...

Re: Anyone just feel defeated?

I could have written this post myself... really... WORD FOR WORD.

I do feel that way a LOT lately... like I'm being swallowed up by the earth and am getting everything just PARTIALLY done. Other days, I feel fine. And, I too, have an AMAZING child and husband, so then I feel GUILTY that I even feel that way. And I feel like sometimes my son senses my stress. I feel guilty that I'm rushing to get him ready in the morning, so the very little time we have together is rushed. Then he gets home and it's bedtime. I just feel VERY overwhelmed. Working full time is SO hard... I'm actually SO excited for my once-in-awhile cleaning person to come to my house this Saturday so I can attempt to feel HUMAN and on top of my game again!

I'm sending you FM.

Anyone just feel defeated?

Story of my life. DD is 12 months and it has not gotten any better. I just chug along and take one day at a time. I've succumbed to the fact that my house will always be messy. As long as DD is happy, I feel like I'm doing the best I can.

Anyone just feel defeated?

All the time, and I am a SAHM. It is so hard. Some days I long for my former single life when I could get in and out of the car without it being a 20 minute affair that leaves me with bruised shins. I love my kids fiercely and wouldn't have it any other way, but "it is a grind" is an understatement.

I feel like this from time to time too. Some days I feel like I got it all under control and other days I feel like I just can't keep up with everything. Hang in there!

Re: Anyone just feel defeated?

My house is never clean as I would like. I feel overwhelmed many days. A running list of things to do and never enough time in the day. My DH told me last week to lower my expectations of things I wanted to accomplish in one day. When he said this I rolled my eyes, but I took his advice and honestly my anxiety is much lower this week.

Anyone just feel defeated?

I think threads like this are so valuable. It's very cathartic, as an overwhelmed mother, to hear others vent as well. Not so much in a "misery loves company" way, but from the standpoint of commiseration and empathy. It's so hard to keep it all together and nice to support one another in this great endeavor called motherhood.

Maybe we can share some tips that help us cope, or make your day go a little more smoothly so we can all benefit? For me, I find simply unloading the dishwasher first thing instead of letting it languish all day and the sink piles up, helps me feel one step ahead all day.

Anyone just feel defeated?

Its so wonderful to see so many others in the same boat. Not that I'm glad we're all on this boat, but that I'm not alone. It is very very tough. Being a mom is all I ever wanted and some days I truly think that every thing that comes along with it might push me over the edge. I have so many balls in the air at all times that I know one or more is just bound to drop at any given time, or worse, that I'm gonna lose my mind trying to hold it all together. You are not alone!

Omg it is ridiculous!! I never really noticed it until I started wearing shorts this summer and everyone was like "why are your legs so bruised?". Spend half a day with me and you'll see why. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone just feel defeated?

Thanks everyone for your replies--it really does make me feel better to know I'm not alone. I just wish people IRL would talk about it more. Before I had kids nobody ever told me how much it sucks sometimes!!

So true. And people probably don't talk about it because it SOUNDS awful to say. It's really not though. It's not that I don't love my DD to pieces, it's just that sometimes I feel like I have way too much going on and I just want to crawl into bed and hide!
