Anyone have State Farm Auto Ins?
I just got my premium renewal and it went up $300 for 6 months! Nothing has changed...no tickets, nothing...
I called Geico and got a quote for more than $600 less per year...same exact coverage, and added roadside assistance...switched on the spot.
Has anyone else noticed a price increase?
Thats crazy!

Nope.... did a drivers ed class discount run out or something? I would call and ask why, maybe it was just an error and they will switch it back.

I used to have State Farm, they raised my rate for no reason so I switched to a broker. I rather deal with a broker b/c if I am unhappy with my rate they will shop it for me. State Farm couldn't do anything to lower my rate.

I don't have state farm, I have allstate- but ours just went up slightly as well- the agent said it was an NY wide across the board increase...

i have a different insurance and my rates went down, but my dh and his brother have allstate and their insurance went up.

My defensive driverrs class is still good for at least another 6 months. A friend of mine just told me that hers went up $400 for the year too.
My dad seems to think it's b/c of all the payouts they had to make from the big storm in March. Our home had a tree fall on it, and there was about $12k in damage that they had to pay out to us, but that policy is not in my name.
I was able to save $$ with Geico, and I doubt State Farm will be able to match it, so I'm not even going to bother calling.
It was just a little shocking to see such a jump.

State Farm was one of the highest when we got our quote.
We are with Allstate. They were right in step with Geico. Geico dumped me after 2 tickets and one accident.

Ours went up by $8 a month. I was told that they were implementing a surcharge on Toyota vehicles.

I used to have State Farm - switched to Geico when I married DH (that's what he had and that's where we got the best rate).
From a repair perspective (and this is what I know from family members who own a body shop), if anything on your car needs to be fixed, State Farm will pay out more money and faster than most other insurance companies. That might have something to do with their rates. Geico is the company that your auto body shop will have to fight the hardest with to get paid to do work on your car, especially if they don't want to use after-market parts.
ETA: I will say that IMO, the customer service for both companies is excellent.

DH had State Farm when he first started driving. He paid an obscene amount of $$ for liability only coverage (he was driving a piece of junk). That is why I think they are so expensive, bc they take on inexperienced drivers, drivers with heavy violation records and overall they take on huge risk clients.
We've been with Geico for the past 6 years and I can't rave enough about them. Their low premiums and EXCELLENT customer service has kept me loyal to them.
