Anyone have a really stubborn LO (CIO/Extinction related)
We've been doing Weissbluth extinction for a while now for night wakings, but this week I started for naps as well (he usually goes down fine at night, but for naps I was rocking him to sleep). And for a few days it all seemed to be getting better.
But we seem to be regressing - he will cry the full hour for naps if left to it. Then tonight for some reason, even though he was rubbing his eyes and showing all the signs he usually does just before I put him down, he wouldn't lie down in his crib, kept standing up, so I left the room and left him to cry and he went on for an hour and a half He was standing up in his crib and crying and he would fall asleep for a few minutes at a time but then wake up (no doubt becuase he was standing), so eventually I went in and put him on his tummy and he went straight off. I wanted to avoid doing that because he needs to learn how to do it himself (can get down from standing just fine during the day/when awake) but I knew that's why he kept waking.
Anyone else have a LO that just didn't seem to be getting it? What did you do?

Re: Anyone have a really stubborn LO (CIO/Extinction related)
I am not familiar with this method, but we tried Ferber. I think he cried about 20 minutes the first night, which wasn't so bad, then it was about double that the next night and more hysterical, and the next night an hour and a half. Really hysterical crying also, not whimpering, shrieking as if he was being murdered. The next day, I tried it one more time for a nap and after more than an hour and a half, he did fall asleep, but he was shuddering in his sleep the whole time and seemed freaked out and very clingy when he woke. He was super clingy for about a week after that. After the nap, I decided CIO just wasn't for us and abandoned it. I honestly think some kids get too worked up with this experience, and it's really not the thing to do for every parent/child.
I did read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child though and found many of the suggestions for sleep patterns and sleep signs to look for VERY helpful. With some adjustments to his naps and bedtime, he did much better. CIO was probably never needed actually, I think his sleep needs had changed and he was overtired.
