Anyone get a computer virus, that appears to have something to do with a fake anti-virus selling program ?
My #@%$%^& laptop
Out of no-where all of a sudden I get all these virus warnings and the ONLY screen I can get is something trying to sell me anti-virus software...It doesnt look legit and the phone number is a 1-800 # that is not in service in Lodon
Ugh...any words of wisdom ???

Re: Anyone get a computer virus, that appears to have something to do with a fake anti-virus selling program ?
That has happened to me so many times. Good thing my computers are like Fort Knox and all I see is a notification and then I can look at it only if I want to. Yes, there are viruses that look like anti-virus software. My husband had a work project to write a virus to see if he could break through the anti-virus software. He succeeded and shocked his co-workers so now I have to stay on his good side because I know he can write viruses . But neither he nor I sent you that one!!!

I did the safe mode thing and I guess I dont have any anti-virus software to run , it's not working
I guess I am going to have to bring it somewhere...This could not have come at a worse time

I got this over the summer. It blocked out my own antivirus and was trying to get me to order this apparent antivirus. I think what worked for us was loggin onto the computer under another name and then we were able to run our own antivirus that got rid of it. I'm no computer guru, but it worked. Good luck! I know it's so annoying!

Yep- I got it once. I actually put my CC info in like an idiot because I thought it was real. I realized it was a scam right afterward when the computer kept acting strange even after the supposed program cleaned it out. I called and canceled my credit card right away.

That one hit me a couple of days ago actually. I had to reset to a previous date.

Yes!! There is explicit instructions online how to get rid of it. Just google the name of the fake program and that should help you. Took me several hours, but it worked. I think I had to run in safe mode and change the proxy server or something. I forget, but it was a PAIN!!

Just had this! Just posted about this.
I called Geek Squad...it was too complicated to fix myself (not that I am super savvy with this type of thing but I have researched and fixed in the past).
Was it called System Tools? Mine was....
Well they fix it for $150. Did not leave my house..the connected to my computer through my internet connection and three hours later it is all better.
It stinks, sorry it happened to you too

I just had one, i googled the name of it and got instructions on how to get rid of it. I ran the computer in safe mode and deleted all temp. files and cleaned all disk space and it took care of it no problem.

It was actually called something different than System Tools ( the name is escaping me at the moment )
I ended up bringing it to a local shop ( Computer Hospital) and he said he would have it back to me in 48 hours...$95
I am very non comouter savvy and really wish I had the know to tackle this myself
Very frusturating !!

Noooo. My DH had this on his laptop and he removed it within an hour and for free!. What you have is malware. What he did to remove it was restart the computer in safe mode, download one of the many free virus removal programs out there (he used two: Adaware and Malwarebytes), then he ran complete scans of the computer. After the programs were done, he restarted normally and the malware was gone. Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

Ugh...
See I tried the safe mode thing, but literally the only screen it was allowing me to see was this dumb virus thing
I dont think there was any way of me getting to another screen to download a virus removal program, unless maybe thats something I could have done from this lousy desktop (would it have worked for all computers in the house )
I miss my laptop

Re: Anyone get a computer virus, that appears to have something to do with a fake anti-virus selling program ?
I had this too. I actually think I got it from LIFamilies from clicking some link. Mine was called Antivirus Action. It took me hours to get rid of it, but I ended up restoring. I had to restart in safe mode with command. Then, you have to type in rstrui.exe I was then able to restore to an earlier date. This worked for me.
Good luck! It's a nightmare.
