Anyone else's baby HATE HATE HATE having their face wiped?
I posted this on the summer 09 mommy thread but... DD is almost 8 months and lately she really goes crazy when I try to wipe her face after she eats. She sticks her tongue out, waves her arms around, sticks her hands in her mouth, coughs and makes herself choke! It's crazy, I can wash her face in the tub and she usually has no problem so I don't get it.

Yes my DD hates it. She turns her head, pushes me away and usually screams bloody murder. Its been going on for few months, and only getting worse. She's 15 months now.
DS doesn't love it, but he doesn't carry on like she does.

OMG I'm joining this club. It's the WeiRDEST thing, he acts like I'm using sandpaper EVERY time I try to clean his face!!!! And has been this way since 8 months, now at 18 months I just do it super fast, he still screams blue murder but at least it's over quickly!!

my DD does this! Screams and cries when I try to wipe her face or her hands! Even in the bath tub she doesn't let me do it! It drives me batty!

Nolan did that for a little while but then I watched my mom do it once and he's been fine since....
I take the wet washcloth or paper towel and kind of approach him with it as a hand puppet and make silly noises like boop boop boopity boop and wipe his face like I'm tickling him and he lets me do it!
He sometimes tries to grab it and I'll say playfully, gimme that rag, and he laughs through it and I get the job done!
I always learn good tricks by watching my mom or sisters taking care of Nolan!  Seasoned mommies!
The same technique works for the boogie sucker aspirator! Now he just sits there like I'm doing him a favor... which I really am!!!

I kind of do something similar. I'll take the washcloth and lightly go in my face and make a silly noise first, then I go to DS and rub his face with it a little, then back to me, then him until he's clean. He really hates when I just try and clean him up. This way I guess he thinks we're playing.

My mom had actually warned me about this with DD. I don't wash her face with anything after she eats. I just bring her to the sink, wet my hand and rub that on her face & hands to clean them. She loves it!! Hopefully it will help you too...

Yes! Drives me crazy. She loves the bath when we wash her face, but hates when we clean her mouth after she eats. The worst is her neck. I am always trying to clean it since it does not see daylight  she goes nuts.

Sometimes you have to desensitize them. Literally start off just touching their cheeks and get them used to bigger and bigger areas. I find that my son hated baby wipes the most. A damp washcloth was so much better and it would get him cleaner anyway.

Abby hates it. Im also THAT MOM who constantly cleans outside and inside her nose. She screams bloody murder but nothing is more gross to me than a child with boogers all over the place. Its a family thing. My mom hated it. My sister hated it. I hate it. You'd think I was abusing her with the way she reacts.

Are you using baby wipes to wipe his face?
My kids acted the same way - and then once I used a baby wipe to wipe my face & was left with the most disgusting taste on my lips...it was horrible.
That was the last time I used a wipe anywhere but a hand or tush.

my ds is hte same way he loves being washed during bath time but during the day you cant touch his face with a wet cloth.
he screams and does 360s with his face. i wonder why.

Yes. I do the same. DS tries to lick my hand when I am washing his face.

YES! It's almost impossible to go anywhere near his face. He's 10 months and has hated it for as long as I can remember
I have to do it fast and when he doesn't realize it. Worst is when he has a runny nose

Lynda - thanks for the suggestion... but she even hates when I put lotion on her face so I don't know how she's going to be with me washing her face with my hands. I'm going to try that too though, thanks!

No, I don't use wipes unless we're out. I always use a wet washcloth or sometimes a wet paper towel.

Add my DS Ethan to that list. He's 11 mos old and can get downright violent when he needs his face or nose wiped. Absolutely hates it.
