Anyone else need the rhogam shot?
Anyone else need this because they have a negative blood type? I go on Wednesday for it and just wondered what to expect.
Thanks!

Re: Anyone else need the rhogam shot?
I also have a negative blood type and i had to get it three times. Once at 28 wks once b.c i had to have an amnio and once at birth.. it really wasnt that bad... the one at 28 wks was given to me on my shoulder... the one for the amnio was onmy tush and i cant remember where they gave it to me for the delivery and i have to get it done this pregnancy also.... its really not that bad.. the only bad thing is that most insurance companies dont pay for it and it is alittle on the expensive side

Re: Anyone else need the rhogam shot?
I had it 4 times. Once when I fell (I was bleeding and they wanted to make sure that the blood was not mixing, at 28 weeks. When I went to L & D at 35 weeks with more bleeding and then when I gave birth.
It was a nothing shot really. I barely felt it and had no side effects.
ETA: the only time the Insurance Co would not pay for it is when I had to buy it myself and bring it to the Drs office. They paid for the other 3 in the hospital.

Yep. I had it for my pregnancy. Just a little shot in the tookus! It didn't even hurt. I have to bring a card with me to the hospital when I go into labor that indicates that I had the shot and that I might need another one when the baby is born.

Re: Anyone else need the rhogam shot?
i had 3 already bc of bleeding episodes. it doesn't hurt, it's just a lot of liquid and it's cold so kind of hard to sit right after the shot. I always got it in the booty

I agree with everyone else. Have had it, doesn't really hurt. Will have it again at delivery, hopefully still won't hurt.

Yup, just another shot. You will need it if the baby is negative too.

Re: Anyone else need the rhogam shot?
I had it at 9 weeks bc i had been spotting. It hurts a little, but it isn't bad. I had it in my shoulder, and it hurt to lift my arm for a few days.

Re: Anyone else need the rhogam shot?
You should expect 2 shots - one while pregnant and one after you give birth. They gave me my second shot a few hours before I left the hospital.
It stings....otherwise, it's nothing.

ETA...expect the second shot if your baby has positive blood. My DD is A+ while I'm A-

Re: Anyone else need the rhogam shot?
I had it done at 28 weeks, it didn't hurt at all. I think the anticipation was worse. We were told that I'd receive another one after the baby is born.

It stings....otherwise, it's nothing. My dr said that I won't necessarily get the 2nd shot. It depends on what the baby's blood type is. If he has a negative blood type then I won't need the 2nd shot, but if he has a positive blood type then I will get the shot either the same day or the day after he is born.
