Ready to just punch someone? This is insanity, there is NO reason that we should be here at work, and honestly, it's wrong to keep us here. Getting more and more pissed as the minutes pass. Re: Anyone else...

this weather is terrible.

not saying i agree with this but I'm sure m any employers are thinking that if they closed for every single snow storm no one would get any work done.
i hope everyone is allowed to leave early at least!

Re: Anyone else...

I completely agree with you!

I just looked at my car and the plowing company plowed me in. I am so screwed. This is SO not worth it. Do they need someone to get into a serious accident to realize that they are risking their staff's lives?

I am not too happy either. The roads are awful, our phones are not ringing and half of our staff didn't show up. Just close the friggan office.

I had every intention on going iin. My bf went to shovel out my car and said that my car is dead. Neighbor tried jumping it and that didn't work. So now I have to have it towed to wantagh( I'm in queens) It took my bf 2.5 hrs to get to work.

I gave myself a snow day. I will be commuting to Astoria from douglaston by public transportation tonight. FML

Good for you! I'm so ready to get out of here, I have no clue how long it's going to take to get home, but I'm guessing better than the last time without all the teachers on the roads.

That stinks :( Glad you got them to close early! We're going to head home in about an hour or so because it looks like its really piling on - so I'm guessing in Long Island its even worst. Poor DH has to shovel yet again :(

Employers don't close. Only schools do. At least that's how it seems.

Anyone else...

It took over 45 mins to get to work even though no one was on the LIE. Get to work intending to just run in, grab enough work to do from home, and leave. Some asshole locked the top lock of our suite and of course me and the only other person there didn't have the top lock key. Management office was closed. Parking lot under 5+ inches at 9:30am. Finally we found a maintenance guy to let us in. I told my coworker who was in court that I was bringing work home b/c at nearly 35w pregnant, I wasn't about to risk my life by waiting til later to drive home. She tried to convince me that the roads weren't bad at all, just a little slush. Yeah ok lady. It took me 40 minutes to get home and saw so many cars that had spunout on the exit ramps. But no... roads are fine :eyeroll:

I love the heroes who will drive through anything to get to work who say- oh it's not so bad on the roads.
Only a little blizzard. Only 14 inches of snow and ice
Just because you are a hero, doesn't mean everyone else is.
(and this does not apply to those that HAVE to go in regardless of weather. More the ones who have a choice but still chose to go in and then try to make others feel guilty for choosing safety.)

Yeah, I'm pissed. I was holding out, thinking maybe they'd send the e-mail since it has been snowing heavily and consistently since before I was up this morning.

So far, my office has not closed once this winter. They let us leave early ONCE and it was actually to our detriment since everyone else wound up leaving early at the exact same time. Chat Icon

I get that they can't close all the time and it's winter and of course there's going to be snow, but the only idiots here today are administrative staff and the partners are barely even working from home, sooo really? What's the point?

Re: Anyone else...

We had to take personal time, but she let us leave around 12:15 since there were hardly any patients who came in.

I have to say, the roads seem 100% better than the last blast that took me almost 4 hours to get home. Very slushy, but sanded and I actually see plows all over the place today.

It took me under an hour to get from Manhasset to Amityville.

Yup. This is her MO. She also only has a 10 min drive so of course she's going to think anyone else can do it b/c she thinks my 25 min drive (on a good day) is comparable to hers. Effing delusional wench.

I got in at 8:15 but honestly, I didn't think it got that bad until I got off the highway this morning on Shelter Rock. It was terrible. Accidents all over the place. I heard they closed it down for a bit because of people not being able to make it up the hills and some really awful crash.

Good luck getting home later!!!

I am in the same boat. I have a dr appt at 5pm or I would be holed up in my house today.
My boss gives me a bid due today at 4 that he has had since friday...and he worked all weekend. He could have worked on it. My coworkers were all surprised to see me, since I am 9 months pregnant. I almost slipped 3x trying to clean off my car.

Sorry you work with such a wackadoo.

I actually texted my student and told him to stay home (he turned around 1/2 way).

I know this is a point of contention on here, but he has a little tiny Hyundai and I didn't think he should even attempt w/o 4 wheel drive.

Our maintenance guy has a little small car and said he spun around in circles on Shelter Rock.

Very scary!

This is my DH! I get SO SO angry with him, especially because he drives 40 miles to work and takes our DD to daycare (daycare is on site with him). Ok, yes, so I am at work today too, but I drive 2 miles to the train station alone. I begged him to stay home today and he refused. I don't know how to get through to him when it comes to this.

Re: Anyone else...

We can leave at 3 today.
I work in the city, so it never seems that bad.
Only time the office really closes is if Metro North is affected. (Guess where most upper management lives)

I usually make it into the office. If I don't feel it to be safe to travel, I stay home and use a personal day.

Just wondering if I should take the express bus as I usually do or head to Penn and take the railroad.
