Anyone concerned about having a barking dog?
I have a toy shitzu maltese. He is a spoiled little dog who barks somewhat often. I can't help but worry that the dog will bark and wake up the baby.

He will, at first, but the baby will grow accustomed to the noise, and will then be able to sleep through anything.
We did construction on our house when my DD was younger. Now she sleeps through ANYTHING.

I have 3 little dogs, and they are like a symphony everyday 
I read that baby can hear them from inside the womb and gets used to the noise. I am not really worried at all, honestly.

I have a Shih-Tzu as well - It does make me crazy when he barks and wakes up my DS ( last night being a prime example ) , but he usually only does when someone comes to the door etc...

Everyone keeps telling us the baby will get used to her (I have a crazy loud Yorkie who barks at the freakin' leaves.......) I am HOPING this is the case. - I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
It's not like I"m getting rid of either of them !!

Nick jumped maybe once or twice in the very beginning - but now, he's totally used to the sound.

Babies can hear noises, like dog barks, while in the womb. I swear my son was totally used to a barking dog by the time he was born. The barking dog never startled him or woke him up -- it was the wierdest thing.

honestly, from what I've heard, they will both get used to each either.
The baby will get used to the barking just as the dog will get used to the baby's crying.
I'm not concerned. I have a 65lb pointer/beagle mix with a loud bark especially at night.

Like I often remind people.... there are currently about 6 billion people on the planet. There have been many other billions in the past.
Out of 10-15 billion people, I'm pretty sure there are other families who have had babies and barking dogs.... 
Everyone adjusts to their situation, no matter what it is. Babies in the NICU have constant beeping, lights, activity, poking and proding, etc. DS was in the NICU for a few days, and I think that's one reason why he sleeps so soundly now. 
A barking dog will most likely wind up being an asset....

I have two pugs who bark when they hear a baby crying on TV. I am sure it's going to be an adjustment for everyone in the beginning, but we will adapt.

we have a psycho chi/min pin mix- he barks at EVERYTHING and is so loud. i think my son got used to it in the womb- it never phased him, im hoping thats the case with this one.

My dogs bark alot, and I never stopped them, figured baby had heard it while in utero.
Sure enough now that DD is born, my dogs BARK AT HER and she never wakes, doesn't even flinch. She is an amazingly sound sleeper, actually PREFERS noise when sleeping (doesn't sleep well in our bedroom when it's totally quiet). So don't worry, let those dogs bark baby will get used to it.
My DD has only flinched once or twice whenmy dog was at her level barking at her. Most times it's pretty much like she doesn't even hear it (but she can hear, her hearing was checked in the hospital and also, she does respond to noises).

This is how my dogs were. My one dog barked when DD came home, when she would cry. Now, only about a mth later, they barely bark when she cries, barely pay attention to her. So if my dogs can make progress, yours SURELY will.

DS is so unaffected by the barking it is creepy. We have 5 dogs, and 4 of them are barkers. They get used to it from the womb IMO

I agree...DS is a very light sleeper but the dog barking has no effect on him.
Even as a NB he never even flinched when the dog barked.
Now at 1 year he thinks her barking is totally funny!
