Any tips for a weekend trip to Kalahari?

We are going to Kalahari over Easter Weekend with our 7 year old and 2.5 year old.

Any tips, tricks or suggestions?

Any tips for a weekend trip to Kalahari?

I would pack snacks, the food can be costly. Also try and leave the resort for meals. Most meals we had were expensive and just OK nothing great. If you decide to eat at the resort make reservations ASAP. When I tried 2 weeks before our trip (also a holiday weekend) everything was booked.

Re: Any tips for a weekend trip to Kalahari?

It is a BLAST and you will love it as much as the kids!

The main restaurant in the hotel is fine for breakfast- (they have a buffet, but I don't do buffets so we sat down for breakfast in the restaurant in the lobby) but yes, go outside for dinner.
Barley Creek Brewery is great and not far.

Also, the water park empties out around dinner time so if you can, maybe eat a late lunch and go back to the water park to take advantage of the short lines around 6 pm. You can always have pizza delivered to your room late or grab a snack. It's so much better to be in the park at dinner time with short lines- that was the best!

Kids under 48 inches need to wear life vests and they are strict about it, so if that applies, bring your own if you have them. (puddle jumpers are fine). They provide them, but sometimes they are hard to find if it's a busy day.

They provide towels, but they are small and thin- you can bring your own if that bothers you. Personally I just took a bunch of the ones they provided and replaced when they were wet.
One less thing to pack!

Can you bring snacks down to the water park area or will they check the bags?

The one time I went they checked my bag, I had food/water bottles rolled inside towels so they didn't see them). Another time I went they never checked our bags.

We ate at the new steakhouse and it was really good!! Pricey, but good.

I saw a lot of people with these waterproof pouches for their cellphones. If you want to keep your phone on you to take pics, I saw them for sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $10 (I'll try to post the link)

The adults had just as much fun as the kids.
You are going to have a blast.

I had my bag checked both times I was there.

I agree about dinner time - it's pretty empty in there. One time we went we ordered a pizza for dinner at the water park and stayed until the kids were wiped out.

ETA - if your 7 year old is close to 48 inches (48 inches or over), have them pre-measured right when you walk in. They will get an additional bracelet and won't have to be re-measured at each ride (and I found the signs were uneven). One time we went, my son measured 48 inches at home with no shoes but, didn't on each of the signs so there was a lot of disappointment.

Wow, I've been like 3 times and there was never even anyone at the entrances. We just scanned our bracelets at the turnstyles and walked in. I never even saw any employees milling around near the entrances.
So strange!
I don't bring bags in though anyway. I can't be bothered keeping track of and worrying about bags.
I don't mind paying for snacks if need be. Easier

We've been 3 times as well but, usually go Sunday into Monday? Maybe since it's emptier on Monday?

Yeah maybe. Where do they stop you? At the turnstiles?

Any tips for a weekend trip to Kalahari?

Barley Creek brewery definitely for a dnnner. It’s delicious.
We bought a soft cooler in and had no issues. There were employees at the turnstile but they didn’t even blink at the cooler. We went fri to Sun
Dunkin’ Donuts is right now the block if one of the adults want to run out to grab an inexpensive breakfast.
We packed 3 bathing suits for my dd. Glad I did because she didn’t want to put a wet bathing suit back on.
We would get there early each morning and grab a table because they go fast. They have lockers but we didn’t use them because we didn’t bring anything of value down to the pool and your bracelet is your room key.
Bring puddle jumpers if you have them. The life jacket for the Littles has a strap that goes between the legs and it chaffed my dd

Have a blast. We went in Nov and have another trip planned for May.

I always saw employees by the entrance to the pool. They were stopping people from leaving with tiny towels. I don't recall being searched and I think I had a bag full of towels and puddle jumpers.
What are they searching for? Just food? I thought we could bring food in? I bought stuff at the pizza place in the arcade and brought it in.

They probably want you to only buy their overpriced crappy food that they sell there!

Good call on the bathing suits. They don't dry over night. I brought a new one for each day we'd be in the park for myself as well.

Oh and there is a place in the lobby that sells coffee, pastries, bagels, donuts, muffins, yogurts etc if you want a grab and go breakfast as well!

Re: Any tips for a weekend trip to Kalahari?

Does anyone know if they have dryers?

My DD is over 48 inches and a pretty good swimmer so I am not sure if I should bring a puddle jumper or swimmies for her.

My DS is only 32 inches and I know he needs something. I was just going to use one of their life jackets but maybe I should bring a puddle jumper. His swimmies are too big for his arms.

I think you need some kind of approved vest (coast guard approved??) so arm swimmies wouldn't be good for DS anyway. Puddle Jumpers were ok. Do you have a puddle jumper? They are adjustable around the waist, but idk if they would fit a 7 year old. I think I'd bring a puddle jumper for your DS and let your DD use the life vests there if she needs one.

If she's over 48 and a good swimmer, I wouldn't worry about a puddle jumper for her. If you feel there is something she needs a life vest for - you can use one of theirs.

DS 1 was finally over 48 inches on our third trip (second trip he was 48 inches but, we didn't premeasure) and he didn't wear a life vest at all.

If she is over 48 inches she won't need it. My DD did NOT want to wear one last time we went (she was 7) so I was glad she made the height requirement or she would have been miserable.

It has to be a life vest or puddle jumper (no swimmies) for your littler one

This is how Camelback's waterpark is. They check your bags and look in everything. No food is allowed, or drinks, just one bottle of water. Also, they gave out towel cards, and you had to turn in the towels to get the cards back. The towels were tiny, it was so annoying to keep exchanging them. I'm so used to GWL where they don't care how many towels you use or what you bring in! Does Kalahari also make you check out the towels?

No. I just grabbed as many as I wanted. The first 2 times we went they had huge bins of them when you walked in.
The last time I went I believe they had a little stand with an attendant but we didn't have to check them out. They just gave us however many we wanted and that was it

I have been there several times and they do check bags. I have gotten away with sneaking some stuff in but the do not allow outside food or drinks which is one of the things I don't like about this place.
