any one whose newborn/infant HATES tummy time?
I keep trying to put DS (5 1/2 weeks) on his tummy for tummy time and he screams instantly and hates it. Should I just give up until he's ready for it? I know it's good for them but I def don't want to torture him either. .
or if anyone else had this experience did your LO grow out of it?
TIA!

Do you have a boppy pillow? At around that age, I propped DS up on that and he didn't hate it as much. I also started burping him across my thighs He now loves tummy time!!

The boppy gets the least amount of cries. If you saw yesterday, he fell asleep on it. Don't make me post a picture!!!!!

DD is 5wks old too and she's not too fond of tummy time either. She loves sleeping on her belly, but when i put her down just for belly time in general she only gives it MAYBE a minute before getting grouchy. I find that she does it a little longer though if I lay down next to her and keep talking (I usually try to encourage her to lift her head and when she does I praise her for it). I'm gonna try using the boppy though - I never thought about that.

I don't have a boppy. . I might get one though. DS loves being on my thighs. . he could stay there all day but once he's flat on anything else he's crazy. . maybe the boppy will be better.

oh I did see it. . sooo cute. I did try propping him up on DH's neck pillow which looks like a boppy but apparently my little brand snob knows the difference.

Maybe it's time to take the plunge. All the other babies are doing it.

Re: any one whose newborn/infant HATES tummy time?
If you hold him upright, like in a sitting position, it develops the same muscles as tummy time. My 5w DD is not too fond of tummy time either, but she loves when I hold her in that position, and she can look all over the place. You can also put him belly down on your chest and talk to him, that will encourage him to try to look up at you - another alternative to traditional tummy time. I did all these things with my other two and they developed just fine!

DS doesnt last more than 5 minutes on his tummy until he starts to get cranky. I try to lay him on my tummy and let him do it that way for a little bit.
