Another spinoff about presents
When you DS gets gifts from family, are they from the person (grandma, aunt, cousin,etc..) or are they all from Santa? I ask because my MIL kind of pissed me off the other day. She was telling my boys that Santa was going to have some presents for them to open at her house- on Christmas Eve. I quickly clarified that nonno and nonna had gifts for them to open on Christmas Eve. I was annoyed because first off, Santa brings presents while they're sleeping, to be opened on Christmas morning. Second of all, given that my DS are getting older, I would like to keep the story as simple as possible. They are not going to believe that Santa leaves presents for them all over the place. They believe that Santa comes to our house and our house only. I'm worried if they hear a bunch of different stories they will start to question things too much.

Re: Another spinoff about presents
At this point it seems that the grandparents are saying the gifts are from them. However, when I was a child, Santa left us gifts at both if my grandparents houses too but we also saw both of them on Christmas Day. It wouldn't have worked if we saw them on Christmas Eve.

Re: Another spinoff about presents
I would be annoyed too, BUT when I was a kid we lived in a 3 family home. We lived upstairs from my grandparents. I would open my presents and then run downstairs and see what Santa left at Nonna's. As long as I lived there I always thought I was really lucky to have Santa visit me at two locations.

Another spinoff about presents
Growing up, Santa made a "mistake" and left presents at my grandparents, aunt & uncles, etc. I never once knew any better. We will be doing the same thing with our kids.

Growing up Santa left gifts at my grandparents and aunt and uncles house for me. I thought it was amazing that Santa left me things there too. As DS grows up we will probably do the same.
Edit to say I re read ur post and didn't realize you meant Christmas Eve. Yeah I would probably but maybe say something along the lines how Santa came early to their house.

Another spinoff about presents
Growing up, my grandmother used to write santa on the packages she gave me as well - but, I knew for some reason they were from her (my aunts all wrote their names).
My mom just told me that some people like to help Santa during the holidays and write that on their packages and Santa only brings presents when you are sleeping.

That said, my parents say Santa leaves gifts at their house. And this year, Santa is coming on Christmas Eve to my house (during the day) since DS will be with his dad on Christmas morning
We just make it up as we go along

It's from them. Why would santa bring gifts to other places for our kids, makes no sense ! If you have kids that ask a million questions, you have to keep it simple

Re: Another spinoff about presents
Santa goes to our home and my parents. All other gifts are from MIL or my grandmother (their great grandmother). My parents give some gifts from them. They have an elf so we just say that Santa drops off to them as well if they have been really good. This has been since birth so not questioned. if we just started doing it when they were older they probably would question but don't bc it is all they know.
Btw mine do ask a million question. My 4 year old knows ALL the wrapping paper and even remembers what Santa used Last year. So we make sure Santa wraps everything only in the same paper. It only works bc we have done it since birth so they don't question that aspect.

Re: Another spinoff about presents
I told my kids that Christmas Eve is for exchanging gifts with our family. Christmas Day is for Santa. That's why it annoyed me when MIL threw that out there. We have never had gifts from Santa be given anywhere other then home. I have no idea why she would say something like that to a 7 year old and an almost 4 year old when it's never been that way before.

I feel your pain.... All I can say is, they mean well( I don't think they mean to p-ss the parents off, yet it feels like they are stealing some thunder) and I don't get why they wouldn't want the credit....
All you can do is - we are going to their house, they got you some presents....
the thing that worries me is - the to and from labels.... how do you explain them when your kid can spell?

That is really annoying. Santa only leaves gifts under their tree while they are sleeping. All other gifts are from the person. Santa does come to our relatives house on xmas eve and gives each kid a gift before he starts to travel around the world but that is not the same thing.

Re: Another spinoff about presents
My MIL tried the same thing this year. I had my DH say something to her. Presents from Santa only arrive at our house. Anyone else who gives him a gift it is from that person.
Why are MILs so annoying when it comes to this stuff!?

OMG! I could have written this post myself! MY in laws came last weekend and said the same thing. They live in a building and told DD and DS that Santa knocked on their window looking for them and asked if they could deliver those gifts to them. Before they came MIL told me that she was planning to say that and I asked that she not do that. I told her that I rather them be aware who bought them what gifts so that they could say thank you. I also feel that in a couple of years DD will not believe that story. Although their intentions were good, they still told them the story after I asked them not to. It made me furious! I feel the same way. All these versions confuse them and complicates something that is difficult enough to keep up with! There is such a short window in which they believe, why complicate it anymore? My story to my kids was that family members give gifts to one another (my mom and sister to them and vice versa) and that Santa delivers gifts to them on the night before Christmas. Simple. Why add to it????

Same with us. Santa leaves gifts for the boys at my in laws on Christmas Eve, our house Christmas morning, and my parents Christmas afternoon. It was like this when we were little and we never questioned it...I believed in Santa until I was 10. People we don't see on the 24th or 25th, like friends, those gifts are from those people and not from Santa.

Well my boys don't believe the mall Santas are the real deal. I tell them that they are Santas helpers sent to spread the holiday cheer. Santa is too busy at the North Pole to be hanging out in malls. My version is way more believable then trying to tell them that Santa is all over the world in different places and looks different each time.

Re: Another spinoff about presents
Growing up Santa left us gifts at both sets of grandparents houses (we'd go to each of their houses on Christmas day). I never questioned it, just seemed normal to me.
Oddly enough, my mom says her gifts are from her and my dad with no mention of Santa. I can see why it would bother you though, especially since she's just now starting it out of nowhere.

My FIL is 'friends' with Santa, and he told FIL that he would be making a special delivery a day early just for them at FIL's house ;) My IL's have always made Christmas really magical so I won't deny FIL this, or my children a little extra magic at Christmas. Besides, it was so much more fun for everyone!
