An UNBELIEVABLE kitten update (Updated again on Wednesday)
Well--here we are, 10 days from giving birth to our first baby, and yes...our kittens are still with us.
Thanks to 3 of the wonderful ladies on this board, we were able to get the kittens their exams and vaccines to prepare them to go to the Humane Society. This was 4 weeks ago. The Humane Society had promised us that if we got the kittens all of their necessary vaccines, they would secure a spot and they'd be found loving homes.
Since we had a personal "connection", we didn't want to push the issue, but things didn't happen in the timeline that we were hoping. They were supposed to go to the Humane Society 2 weeks ago, and we were being given the run-around.
Today, we received word that the Humane Society "cannot" take the kittens. So here we are, stuck with 4 kittens that have been confined to a small upstairs bathroom "temporarily" while they were waiting for a chance to go to their forever homes.
This experience has made me feel so angry and hopeless, and I can tell you that I've done more crying over the fate of these kittens than I have over the pain and stress of this difficult pregnancy.
I'm starting to realize that NC is nothing like NY in their regard for animals--I'm getting the feeling that people just don't care...
We are contacting our vet tomorrow with our plea for help...please pray that they are able to come through for us.
The Humane Society told us to bring them to Animal Services...yes, that would be the place where they keep animals for 3 days before gassing them to death if they are not adopted. Image Attachment(s):

OMG Beth! This is just unbelieveable.
I know this is a stretch...but is there anyway you or a family member can get the kittens here and see if little Shelter will take them?
Your vet comes through.

Beth, if I was living there, I would definitely take one. I emailed my friend who lives in your area, but I'm sure its too much since they just got a puppy. What about sending a flyer to all the vets in the vicinity and tell them to post the pic in their waiting room. Did you try craiglist. I'm sure you tried everything. You and DH are such special people to do this wonderful thing for them.

Re: An UNBELIEVABLE kitten update
i am so sorry you still haven't found homes for these kittens. good luck, you are doing a wonderful thing.
ETA:
I can't stop thinking about your kittens so I did some research. I'm sure you've looked this all up, but I just wanted to see if I could help.
Petsmart works with Feral groups and they have adoption services in the stores. I looked up Charlotte, NC stores and found this. (I don't know where in NC you live, but if you look under petsmart adoptions, you can search stores that work with local agencies.)
linky
You can contact these organizations through the stores, but they may be able to help you adopt these kittens out.
We got our kitten through a feral cat rescue.
I also know someone who works for PetSmart and he told my DH and I that they adopt 6-7 kittens out a week. Your kittens are adorable. I wish you all the best!!

Re: An UNBELIEVABLE kitten update
Oh my God they are so gorgeous! I can't believe that nobody wants them!!
And SHAME on the Humane Society! That truly disgusts me. They are always begging for donations- makes me wonder what they even do with the money the raise! And how could they even suggest that you take them to Animal Services - where they would be euthanized?? How HUMANE is that? Ugh that angers me SOOOO much!
Plus it sounds like they promised you they would take them once you got all the shots, etc...so you went out of your way to do that and your own expense and time and they go back on their word?? I'd be FURIOUS!
So sorry you are going through this- I wish there was something I could do to help...

Re: An UNBELIEVABLE kitten update (Updated again on Wednesday)
Wednesday update:
We have now officially exhausted all of our options. We called our vet to ask them to take the kittens in and find homes for them. We actually begged--and they told us over and over again that they were full. THEY even told us to take them to the pound.
I spent this morning crying in my bed.
I can't believe how few options there are around here. This is going to be my new crusade, because something truly needs to be done about this.

I feel so horrible reading about your plight! Isn't there anyone willing to take one that will pay to have it shipped to them? I had my puppy shipped from Ohio. They are so precious, I wish I was not deathly allergic!

Have you tried going on the petfinder message board. There are several people from your area that frequent the boards regularly. Maybe they can help.
Good luck

Can't we somehow have them shipped to you or Beth, is there anyone driving down to see you and the baby that could take them back here?

That's 3 right there, b/w you and the other poster. So maybe there is a way we can have them shipped up here, or if some family or friend visits Beth and drives back with them?

Re: An UNBELIEVABLE kitten update (Updated again on Wednesday)
I cannot believe that this is happening Can we do something about this? Get them up to NY somehow? Maybe there is an organization that would help transport them to the willing LIFers who want them?

I was thinking what about Little Shelter? If we can get together $ to ship them up here or if Beth maybe happens to have a family/friend who drives down to see her and the baby, take them back with them?

Re: An UNBELIEVABLE kitten update (Updated again on Wednesday)
Unfortunately, I think it's easy to say "I'll definitely take one" when the person in question is 700 miles away. I don't mean that to upset anyone that I've spoken to about taking the kittens in the last day or so...but "definitely" turned into "sorry, I can't" as soon as I mentioned that I'd be willing to find someone to drive them to NY.
Again, to those two people, please don't be upset that I said that...
I do have family that is driving down and back up for the holidays so I definitely have a way of getting them there. Someone just FM'd me about possibly being able to help, and I'm just waitng to hear back about that.
Once again, I am truly blown away by the helpfulness and kindness of all of the LIFers that want to help. It means so much to me.
As I said, I will keep you all posted!!

Sorry Beth, I said "yes" without asking my husband. He claims its too much since we have 1 crabby adult and have alot going on this year. I think also cause he's still in mourning for our cat that passed a few weeks ago.
As mentioned to you in my FM , I did also try to help w/my NC friends.

Re: An UNBELIEVABLE kitten update (Updated again on Wednesday)
What about contactig North Shore Animal League in Queens? The majority of their kittens and puppies are brought up from the south because there is such a big problem there with euthanizing animals.....
Maybe they will take them? They have people down there alll the time picking up pets.....
It's worth a shot!
I'm so sorry you are going through this... It breaks my heart. My first cat is 3-legged and had a very hard time getting placed into a home because of her disability, we saved her from getting gassed when she was 4 months old! She is an absolute doll!!

Since you have a way of getting them up here, can we try some local orgs up here? I know reggie knows a lot about cats. I wish I could take them, I really do, but DH would kill me (and so would my dogs). I just cannot bear the thought of those cuties with those soulful eyes not finding a home. Please FM me if I can do something...
