Am I over reacting???
I went to my regular doctor today because I have a terrible cold and I am having trouble breathing. I am almost 38 weeks. I had spoken to my OB office about what was OK for me to take and what wasn't. I walk into the Doctors office and explain whats going on. He listens to my lungs, walks over to his cabinet, opens some jar and literally sticks me in the arm with a needle. Now, it took me 2 years to get pregnant, countless injections dealing with IF, so I am not afraid of needles or opposed to them, but HELLO, you didn't tell me what it was?! Mind you, I saw the PA because the Dr. was busy. I asked him what it was and he says Dipehnhydramine which means CRAP to me. My DH quickly looks it up and says oh its a form of benedryl. I was just sitting there in shock. He wrote me a script for anitbiotics and sent me on my way.
I called my Doctors emergency line and they said it should be fine. I am so upset. I don't know if its because he didn't ask me first, he didn't ask if it was ok with my OB first or that I have been so panicked this whole pregnancy. Sooo am I nuts cause I am really upset  Opinions?

I would have lost my sh** on him. That is bad practice whether someone is pregnant of not. I would call and complain to the office, he should not be injecting anyone with anything without their consent and without them being informed what it is.

Agreed, pregnant or not the PA should have discussed the plan with you before the injection was performed! Had you been made aware of what the medication was (and that it was totally safe) you may have been completely fine with it; but, he should have had your permission/ understanding first.

totally agree. I can relate to being anxious during pregnancy i am that way now! I would flip out if my dr gave me an injection with no explanation. I would call and complain.

No he didn't swab my arm, he literally just shoved it in there, and I know I probably could have screamed to stop, it happened so quick, I barely had time to shoot my DH a look. I literally grabbed my scripts and walked out of the office, I had already paid my copay so I just stormed out. I called my OB right away and his covering Dr. said it was fine but still?!?! I will not be going to that office anymore. Anyone have recommendations for a primary care/internal medicine in the Wantagh, Bellmore, Seaford, Massapequa area?

honestly, i wouldn't worry about it. at 38w im going to assume you are quite obviously pregnant looking. i am sure anyone working in a doctors office wouldnt just give you an injection of something that would be harmful to the baby.
as far as their bedside manner, that's another story

Wow. Holy crap.
I hope you plan on speaking to the office manager or doctor at that office, that was just awful for him to have done. I'm so sorry 
I love my old PCP, he's in Farmingdale, but no idea if he's taking new patients. If you're interested FM me

Regardless of the fact that Benadryl is safe in pregnancy, that's just bad medicine. As a PA myself, I would never ever do that. I dont even touch my patients without letting them know what I'm doing every step of the way.
What was his name? Does he happen to be in the Babylon/West Babylon area?
Anyways, I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. That is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I would tell the MD and the office manager. Like I said BAD MEDICINE!

A shot of benadryl should be fine during pregnancy...
That being said, it was very unprofessional of him to give you an injection without discussing it with you first and without allowing you some time to ask questions.
I would absolutely write a letter to the office manager and the main doctor of the practice. Send them both the same letter, but send it twice, in written form. They need to reitterate acceptable procedures in their practice to everyone who works there!

This office is located off hicksville road in Massapequa. My sister is a PA too, so I called her on my way home and she was shocked. I wouldn't have cared if he explained it to me, but I still would have called my OB office to confirm it was okay. I didn't know the amount of mg he was injecting either, which only made my anxiety worse. In addition, he refused to listen to the list of medications my OB said was ok, he just kept saying...yeah, yeah I know what you can take I don't need your list. He was just REALLY rude and uncomfortable to be around. I will not be going back there again.

I agree with this 100%. I would be livid! I am sure that your LO is going to be just fine, but that is absolutely terrible practice.

If that was me I would of stopped him before giving me the needle, Im controlling and have a big mouth. So nothing would have been done unless he discussed it with me first and explained it all in details.
If I were you Id call the office and complain and really give it to them.
