Re: All Votes Aren't Equal - What you can do...

There have been 5 instances now where the candidate who won the popular vote did not win the electoral college. 4 out of 5 have been democrats Popular Vote vs. Electoral College Votes so spare me with the "if roles were reversed..."

and this is the finest slice of irony I ever did see:

All of that said, I lost, my state lost, people who think like me lost but we live in similar areas with similar issues affecting us, compared to those who largely voted for him.

Nevermind that 49% of people didn't vote at all, because we had the most suck-tastic candidates to choose from ever..

I wish Clinton supporters would behave better. And I wish the foaming-at-the-mouth Trump supporters would give.it.a.rest.

Note, that does not mean ALL Trump supporters.

ETA - I don't believe the system needs to be changed because in our 200+ year history this has only happened 5 times where a President was elected without the popular vote.

"Only" 5 times means 11% of the time a President was elected without a popular vote. I'm pretty sure any engineer, scientist, businessperson, etc. would want to fix a system that fails 11% of the time?

Actually I think its 8%. As an auditor, I can tell you this is an immaterial difference. There have been 57 elections in the US with 5 turning out this way.

Sorry, I was doing # of Presidents, not # of elections, you're probably right, closer to 8%. As an economist, we would never stand for that margin of error in our statistical data.

Why is everyone all of a sudden acting like the electoral college was invented 10 years ago? Please educate yourselves on why it is in place.

It is kind of sad why this archaic practice is still in place. It should be changed or abolish entirely... For those who don't know why the electoral college exists, here's a good article:

Why the Electoral College exist?
