All LIRR service suspended
All LIRR lines have been suspended as of a few minutes ago. Poor people trying to get home from work!

In case you live in an area where the storm hasn't hit, there is a MASSIVE thunderstorm (like pockets of 5.6 inches per hour of rain) moving through the area.

They aren't even letting people into Penn now. Overcrowding.
Take the E train to Jamaica. There is no westbound LIRR service.
There are trains leaving to Long Island from Jamaica. I just got on a Ronkonkoma train.

OMG, that was the worst storm I've ever been in. I got off at Port Washington, the rain and wind were INSANE!!!!! I had a jacket on, and my clothes were soaked down to my bra and underwear. I look like I jumped in a pool. My umbrella flipped inside out, I could hardly see anything. CRAZY!!!
So glad to be home...now waiting for DH who's stuck in Penn.

I am at Mineola now and there is a sign that is saying trains are leaving Atlantic Terminal now. Another option to take a subway to Brooklyn.. then get the LIRR there.

DH and I parked our car in front of our building (we live in Kew Gardens) and it started to rain right after. DH thought we should wait it out in the car.
A branch hit the car in front of us.  Never been so scared in my life. We couldn't see ANYTHING for about four minutes.

My DH was on the train stuck between stations for forever because a tree fell on the tracks. They had to go back to Penn. He's not going to be home for a long time. Ugh.

Last I heard from DH is they sent them back to Penn and he wasn't sure what kind of service he was going to have. This is the part that really stinks about him working in the city.

Im stuck at work. Its so quiet and boring and kinda creepy here. My husband is coming in to get me though. but he has been stuck in traffic for more than an hour and just now got to the grand central. i guess there are a bunch of accidents too.

the website said 90 minutes or longer. I last checked 10 minutes ago.

my train to seaford got to long island city then waited 20 minuted, then we went back to penn. took e to jamaica. 4 hours 15 minutes later, home. ugh...
every week it is something else it seems with the trains...every week....

WOW, this was the train DH was on... I swear he always escapes everything by the skin of his teeth
The heavens opened when he got to his station... he was soaked running to the car.

it was CRAZY!!! I've never seen anything like it either. I was standing on a corner, trapped waiting to walk the 15 min walk home from the train. It was INSANE!! the thunder and lightening and hail and wind and trees and windows broken, etc.

Luckily DH and I drove into the city today, otherwise we'd probably still be stuck at Penn.
The LIE going home through Queens was a mess. Trees down everywhere, definitely looked like a tornado touched down.
We are leaving for vacay at 7:30 am tomorrow morning, so I am glad we got home when we did. I still had to pack.

Figured Jamaica would be insane so I waited it out in Penn station. Chatted with other people and just had some laughs. Finally decided to go to Jamaica and the subway was EMPTY. Little chaos at Jamaica, with a packed train but they opened another train and this one is empty in the back.
My 532 turned into a 10 something. Ugh.
LIRR did horrible at communicating that service was going east of jamaica. They had one automated announcement repeating itself forever.

I just got in from picking my bil up from the Manhattan. We made it in in record time (left at 9 pm) and got there at 10 on the dot (I live in Mid-Suffolk). On the way in, we saw the LIE was psychotic going eastbound due to downed trees and whatnot. The entire area was dark from power outages. The traffic was backed up all the way to the tunnel so we picked him up, and then went thru Harlem to the Bronx to get home and made it in about an hr and a half. It was absolutely insane!! My poor brother is a fireman in Crown Heights and said there are a ton of trees down due to a tornado touching down. everybody gets home safe....much better late than never.
