First of all, great boss!
Second, I think you should tell him you loved it, but realized the color was a little hard to work with with some of your clothes so you're getting something different. Unless you could suck it up and keep it? Toughie!

that's what I would do- then you can always say you sister borrowed it, or something got on it and now you don't want to risk it- so you are only using it for going out etc

Could you pretend you noticed something wrong with it and when you went back to the store they didn't have any more and chose something else?
If you do the use it once and then return it thing - I think it would be fine too. Same with the "after thinking about it and looking at your wardrobe you realized its just not your style but you loove Gucci" - afterall, he gave you the receipt so returning was always an option.

I was going to suggest the same thing... let him know that while you love it, you know that you won't have the opty to use it very often b/c you have nothing that matches...

I agree-- anyone who spent that much money on somehting wants you to enjoy it and I would rather someone get something that they would use regularly than something that just sits in the closet.

I would not go in once with it and THEN return it b/c then you are going to have to always answer the "how's the bag, or where's the bag" questions..
I 100% would say.. "I really love the bag, and I realized that you prob spent a lot on it so I am gonna exchange it for something that I can use it as an everyday bag"
