Advice and Opinions needed
Background: My DS is almost 15 months. (Aug 5th) He is the youngest and has an older brother and sister who adore him.
I am very concerned about his speech. He babbles all the time. He says mama and dada but in babble. I never hear him say it if DH or I walk in a room. I have heard him say other things at times though that blow me away. If I say "I did it" he will imitate me and say it. If I ask him to say it though he won't. I hold up different items and say what they are and there is no response to it but to take it and play with it. He will ask for his baba though.
I asked my Peds and she didn't seem overly concerned though she did give me the EI number. She says she doesn't think he'll qualify because he does undestand things we say. If I ask for hugs and kisses I get it. If I ask him for his bottle or a ball he'll get it etc...
I don't want to freak out and be paranoid and I'm trying very hard not to compare him to the milestones of my other 2 kids. I just got very worried reading a Parenting magazine article that said that at 15 months they should be saying 10-15 words.
Anyone want to talk me off the ledge?? Should I call EI now or wait a little longer?
Any advice and opinions are great appreciated!

I would wait a few more months. DS wasnt saying much a few months ago other than baba, now he seems to be picking up more and more words. If they understand and babble that is considering normal communication and development for that age.

I agree.
If he is understanding everything that is KEY. We had Johnny evaluated b.c we just didn't know what he knew and what he didn't. And he had no words at 15 months...now at 22 months he seems to understand a lot more and speech is sloooooowly coming along, lol.
I would def. wait!!!

Expressive and receptive language are different, so one can be fine with receptive and need help on expressive. That's how DS was. If *you* think there may be an issue, I would call and not really concern yourself so much with what other people say, since we aren't the experts

I was basically going to write this exact statement.
