advice - temping coinciding with OPK?

I temped for the first time last cycle. Although hearing my alarm go off at 6am on the weekends was annoying, I found the experience quite interesting and I am continuing to do it this cycle.

I am just wondering if anyone who temps could please tell me if/how it coincides with your OPK result?

Last cycle, we BD at night on CD 5, 7, 9, 12 (afternoon) and 13 (night).

I got a smiley on CD 12.

My temp rose from 96.6 on CD 13 to 97.5 on CD 14. So, I figured I had ovulated by then - is that correct?

Do you girls think we're timing this appropriately? We're heading into our 5th cycle of trying. I hate being so impatient but I am a big worry-wort.

Thanks in advance for all of your help and advice! Chat Icon

this is my first month temping too so i am new at it, but from what i read and some other posts on here when i was asking a ton of questions...you seem to be on track (but not sure how reassuring that is for you coming from a newbie Chat Icon )

based on both your temps and opk i would say y ou o'd on CD 13 so dtd on cd 12 & 13 sounds about right. CD9 may be a day too soon, so maybe try for day 10/11 next month?

DH and i tried the every other night routine for the past two months and it didnt work ...so this month we tried every night for 5 nights until O!

Thanks so much for your reply!!! Any and all responses are very reassuring, thank you! I am pretty shy at posting on this board because I am private person. I am still a newbie too - even though I'm up to my 5th try because I have short cycles.

We tried every other day last month for the first time. That was good...and I laid on my back for 30 mins as usual...

Ideally, this cycle I would like to do what you suggest - every day 10-13 but I am not sure its physically possible for either me or DH lol. Plus there's not as much (if you know what I mean lol) when we DTD consecutive days...

Have you tried Preseed or Mucinex yet? I am tempted but I haven't yet.

Thanks again for your advice and lots of luck Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

you are lucky you have short cycles...if i am out this week, my next one wont be until May bc i have long cycles Chat Icon

I did try mucinex this cycle bc i figured may as well try anything. so i started taking it the week I o'd (started on Monday and o'd that following saturday/sunday). this may be tmi...but we noticed there was more cm on Tuesday...but the rest of the week things seemed normal so i really dont know if it helps or not.

if this month didnt work, i prob will try preseed next month. seems the girls on here find it works. i dont have anyone to really talk to about this stuff bc all my friends are first getting engaged and not ready for a family yet so i stalk these boards for info Chat Icon

Re: advice - temping coinciding with OPK?

you need 3 elevated temps to confirm ovulation. if you had a thermal shift, it sounds like you ovulated. just keep temping so that you can determine your luteal phase (which is the period after ovulation that remains constant (ie: every month, you will see that your luteal phase, lets say is consistantly 12 days or so) and then you will know when to expect your period, and will have a better idea of whether or not you are pregnant if your temps remain high past that amount of time. for instance, my luteal phase is about 11 days. so i know if my temps are high past that day, i might be pregnant, and i can test. if you see a dramatic drop that means you will get your period in 24 hours or so. KWIM?

Yes - thank you! After my temp rose to 97.5, the next 3 days were 97.2, 97, 97.2. I used fertility friend, and it said my coverline was 96.9 and I didn't drop below that temp until the day before AF arrived (temp dropped to 96.8). I was hoping it was just a fluke reading but...there was AF, loud and proud, a few hours after taking my temp.

This whole temping thing is pretty interesting. I am continuing this month to see if my body remains on the same schedule. Regarding my LP, I o'd on CD 13, and then got AF 13 days after that, making my LP 12 days - which is ok, I think/read. (I temped specifically to make sure of O as well as the length of LP.) I guess now its just hoping something sticks...Thanks again for your reply!

yes aa luteal phase of 12 days is perfect!! keep with it every month until you get pregnant. it's really a valuable piece of information, not just to confirm ovulation every month, but to determine pregnancy too. and then you won't waste money every month on pregnancy tests either lol
