Re: Adoption
No but I have two cousins that have recently adopted. Both were international. One of my cousins is a single mom and her son was born in Guatemala and my other cousin has two adopted boys from Korea.
The thought crossed my mind today. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow to discuss infertility

We are currently trying to decide between IVF and adoption or childfree life. I started researching adoption and realized....DAAAMNNNn the info is overwhelming. I don't know where to start!

Re: Adoption
A friend/coworker adopted a little girl from China last year. Our company actually provides assistance with adopting (I think they give you $2K towards it). I thought that was cool.

I have some friends that have and are going through it now and they are in Florida. If they will share their sources I will get back to you. One good friend has one son who is almost 2 and has gone through numerous miscarriages both natural and D&C since and doing Clomid now but not having alot of hope. I'll see what I can find out.

Re: Adoption
Deb, a patient of mines son who lives in virginia is trying to adopt in honduras, they went through an agency and lawyer and I remember the dad telling me he and his wife - the grandparents had to go into the city to get I think it was original birthcertificates I forget the whole thing, and that it cost a lot $$$$$$$$ of money and they said it may take 2 yrs. and then you have to keep up with them b/c their lawyer called into the adoption agency I guess in hondorus and they didnt even start the process! so they were upset 8 months went by them thinking they were on it and they werent. I dont work in that office anymore but from what I remember the grandparent, my patient made it sound very very difficult. and then another patient she adopted from russia and it took 2 years and she said a lot of $$$$$$$$$$ over 10k she said and she had pull through her brother knowing the pope. GL and if I find out any difinitve info I will let you know asap!

Re: Adoption
My dad's cousin adopted a baby girl from Russia.
She received numerous photo's of babies and chose the one she wanted. After a lot of investigations, finger printing, etc...she had a chance to go to Russia to see the baby. She wasnt allowed much interaction but had a chance to see, hold and get to know the little girl. A few months later she officially had a chance to go to Russia and pick her up.
I know their is a lot more involved when there but I am not familiar with it. I do know she had to stay with a host family for 2 weeks before returning to the US. She did change the babies name and their were some documents and things that had to be done and finalized in Russia before returning.
This was about 4 years ago.
If you want more info let me know. My dad's cousin did this and about 3 of her friends adopted from the same agency she did.

Re: Adoption
My friend had a very seemless adoption done in Columbia. Her little boy is a dream. I will try and get a hold of her tonight.
I was reading an article in people about a growning number of Canadians that come to the US and adopt black babies. There are a large number of black babies in the US. But due to the increase in overseas adoptions making it possible for adoptive parents to bring home children that look like them, this option gets overlooked. I know it is not for everyone, but something to consider(not sure of your finanical situation).
My job also gives out an adoption incentive as well. Definitely look into it.
Good luck, I will try and get back to you with the Columbian agency's name.

Re: Adoption
my hair colorist adopted 2 children from Columbia. She is so happy and they a both such beautiful children. I just know that it took a long time and alot of waiting. She also had to make 2 trips to Columbia and didn't come back with a child. I think that she adopted the first baby within a year. The second one took alot longer to get. hope this helps..

I had a friend who did a domestic adoption, but we are no longer close. I remember that it took a VERY long time though- close to two years.
