About how much to renovate a bathroom?

So about how much does it cost to renovate a bathroom? I'd like to get an idea because a house we just looked at had two bathrooms from the 70's that need desperate updating!

I'll have to double check with my DH, but I believe that we spent about $8,000 to expand and completely re-do our bathroom. This included a few "upgrades" too (jacuzzi tub, nicer tiles, etc). HTH!

7 to 50k depending on how crazy you get. 8k to expand and a jaccuzi tub sounds like a deal.

Re: About how much to renovate a bathroom?

My DH just redid my parents bathroom for them and put down a new tile floor and put wainscotting over the old tiles, my mom already had the new tub fitter and a new toilet and pedestal sink.

After we buy the new accessories (toothbrush holder, soap dish, etc.) it will be under $500

Re: About how much to renovate a bathroom?

I did our one bath and the new vanity / sink / faucet was 500.00, the new bath fan, a cheap surround, new toilet and your over a grand that quick.

If there is wallpaper and you have to take it off and skimcoat, you can add lots of time.

The usual answer.... "It depends"... Chat Icon

What did you have in mind? If you aren't changing the plumbing or electrical locations, it saves $$. Just replacing the toilet, sink/vanity, and painting the walls could be about $200. Tubs are more, since it often involves redoing all the tile. You could always get a shell to go over the existing tub. DIY tile is relatively inexpensive.

How much could you DIY?

Re: About how much to renovate a bathroom?

We in the process of redoing our 1956 bathroom. We bought all the materials ourselves and hired someone to install it all.

I have to disclose that I don't have the cheapest taste and for some reason my DH and I love things that are expensive but it will probably cost us $10,000 when we are done and that was ripping everythign down to the studs and starting all over again. I do have to say that I did say alot of money though finding things online that were cheaper and not settling for the price we were given.

Like previous posters said it really depends!

Figure on around 10K.

ETA: That is the price for a complete rip out and rebuild, not a face lift or spruce up.

We did ours ourselves, down to the studs. Materials for a small bath cost us about $3000, but you couid spend less or more even, depending on what you choose.

Re: About how much to renovate a bathroom?

It depends on the materials you're using...and who is doing the work.

We gutted a 7x7 almost 2 years ago. It was ~$6,800 for labor and ~$7k for materials.

Re: About how much to renovate a bathroom?

we just redid our second bathroom... spent about $6000 for a total gut and redo ( all new drywall, moving some plumbing, etc.) but that is with DH doing all the work himself, and its a really small bath with only a stall shower....it could have been easily double if we had had somebody do it...

Re: About how much to renovate a bathroom?

my powder room was gutted and remodeled in the past year. size remained the same but all materials were new. saved a ton in labor as some friends did the work. project was completed in less than a week (redo of a botched sheetrock job, installation of beadboard, new window, new interior door, molding, paint, installation of vanity, faucet, toilet and accessories). total cost was around $3k. plan on remodeling a guest bath soon and expect to pay at least double of the cost of the powder room.

If you do it yourself and don't expand, you can do it for about $2000....depending on what type of tub and stuff you get. that is gutting it, and putting in tub/shower, vanity, toilet, mirror, medicine cabinet, tiles, etc.

Re: About how much to renovate a bathroom?

We're lucky because my aunts are in the tile business, so we got all of our tile, grout, and other supplies, including stuff to do new plumbing for less than 600 bucks since we paid close to cost. Then our tub, toilet and vanity came to about that, as well. So, for us, we're able to get it done for 1200 bucksChat Icon Unbelieveably cheap! Had we paid retail prices for the tile, we'd be into the 10K arena.
