a poll based on a conversation : 9/11 - inside job or not?
Before someone rolls her eyes, read on! 
I recently was discussing 9/11 with someone who believes 9/11 was a horrible event that may have been an inside job, or perhaps a select few in the gov't knew it was about to happen.
I do know there is a lot of different sides here; as I researched into this a bit after discussing this with the person..I see some architects have started groups about their theories that the buildings collapsed in a weird manner, etc.
Now, I'm not looking for a debate here or people to feel they can't post their honest feelings, so I figured I'd make this a poll.
This person isn't some Rosie O'Donnell fan who took stock in her thoughts when she was on The View; it's a person who I would regard as being highly intelligent,intellectual, well-read, sensible, KWIM? (not saying Rosie isn't, but you get my point here)
So I was wondering if there are others out there.
Questioning this isn't about disrespecting families or people lost in 9/11; it's merely a cut & dry poll.

I've seen too many scientific shows about the events to think it was staged or planned....
The same gov't who can't run Health Care, Social Security, maintain our roads, or anything else that people say the gov't can't do is the same gov't that can pull off a stunt like this?
They can't even keep CIA agents names secret, but they can manage to keep this secret?
IMO, this "inside job" theory is like a spider web. 99% holes, and just a few thin threads between random points that don't really add up to anything....

Interesting question! I'm not a "conspiracy theory" kinda girl, simply stated. BUT I did catch a Frontline show years ago about John O'Neill, a CIA agent who worked for years in the Middle East (particularly Yemen) and KNEW about Al-Qaeda's plans. He worked hard for years to piece together the cells, the money trail, etc.
Ultimately, his style pizzed off too many people and he was demoted, then resigned.
He took a new job as Head of Security at the World Trade Center - 8 days before 9/11, where he utimately perished.

Before that piece I would have said ABSOLUTELY NOT, NO ONE KNEW about 9/11 etc.
After seeing it, it really changed how I view our "intelligence" operation -- not to say anyone willingly LET 9/11 happen - just that there were people in the know about the planning and they were disregarded (I'm sure O'Neill is not the singular example of this).

I agree with the above poster. Do I think it was an inside job? No, however, I do believe that this country knew, aka, had intelligence that something was going to happen, and they did not prevent it. Dont know that I'd go so far as to say they ignored it, but you know how this country is...they cant get out of their own way.
On the flip side, we have a conspiracy theorist in the family (on DH's side of course ) and he would have answered your poll in the affirmative....but then again everything is a conspiracy with him!

but i do think they learned from the previous bombing - the building won't colapse from a bomb in the parking garage because it was a hung building - it needed to collapse the top as they did it

I know someone that was a first responder for both...he slipped a said something once that would lead me to believe we (the general public) don't know the whole story

I think this is kind of like what happened with Pearl Harbor- a lot of people said that the government KNEW it was going to happen but they let it happen so that we could enter the war.... seems like that could have been the case here- this country never cared much for going after terrorists until something happened on our own soil.
So it wouldnt surprise me

i wouldnt say it was an inside job, but i would say that there was probably intelligence showing that the terrorists were planning something and not taken seriously, or didnt put the pieces together quickly enough. so in that sense, i say our govt failed us; but I do not believe people with in drew up this plot and carried it out on the inside.

We are such a reactive society. That I believe that through intelligence we knew something was in the works, we were unable to prevent it, and couldn't fathom that 9-11 would be the result.

The intelligence bureau knew about attacks planned, they know targets, the know around about dates, they knew security was lacking in many areas - I do not think they planned, funded, executed 9/11 at all.
I do think that the people with the knowledge sadly sat back waiting for it to happen in order to proceed with plans "they" felt were necessary such as war. It was the reason why we entered war in WWI with the sinking of the Lusitania. Great acts of horror spur people to seek revenge before any thought was given.

I agree.
But as for people that knew it was going to happen....
yes, there were top level officials that were aware of the threat and the possible mode of attack, but people that "let it happen", no I don't believe that. People that could and should have done more to prevent it - absolutely.

Same here.
I have no doubt that there were warnings that were possibly ignored and misinterpreted, and that there was a failure on our end wrt understanding and responding to the intelligence we had, but at the same time, if you want to cause mass destruction you don't exactly put your plans out there in the morning papers for everyone to read.

I believe that some knew just how dangerous of a situation it was. I believe no one thought it could be this big of an incident.
Part of our American ego that our PTB thought something like this couldn't happen.
So, no, not an insude job.
This damage from this was supposed to be worse from what I've read and seen.

Yes, me too. There were a lot more bombs down there for the first bombing. They thankfully didn't go off.
I'm a huge believer that we don't know MOST of what happens. Including Flight 800, 9/11 and the Pentagon and Pennsylvania. I've heard way too many things from people that were THERE and nothing is as is seems.

honestly, we are not and should not be privy to everything the govt knows regarding our national security.
all information available to US would also be available to our enemies. not very smart in my opinion.
the three branches of govt are there for our protection, but at the same time, could be the reason that information wasn't shared then as readily as it could have been.
it's not black and white. but it's also not "let me sit on this info just for shits and giggles" either.

I agree with that for the most part. AFTER the fact, they could be more forthcoming with information. Still not all, but a lot more.
I also believe they don't share, because a lot of people can truly not handle it.
I know people who claim (I have not seen but have no reason to not believe) that they have an arsenal in their home 'just in case' something happens. That scares me more than the not knowing.

I do not believe our govt. staged this event, this to me is getting out there, rather like the birther movement theories about Obama's citizenship.
I would not be at all surprised to learn that the Bush administration knew this was going to happen and let it happen in order to justify action in the Middle East. There were discussions about entering Iraq well before 9-11 took place. I would hope this is not the case, but it would not surprise me. We'll never really know though.
