A new journey begins today!

So I have decided to put my scale away for a while. I have spent the lsat few years tracking all of my food and weights daily and have decided that it is time for me to get mentally strong and kick these terrible "disordered eating" habits out of my life for good.

I have had disordered eating for almost 11 years. Most recently, I decided to compete in a figure competition to challenge myself. I had a great experience but I realized thta i was only competing so that I could continue to justify my control issues with food and get super lean. Not good.

I have decided to put my competition suit and shoes away along with the scale for a while. I will still track myf ood for a bit, but I am going to try to be more relaxed with my choices and get back to being a person that eats for health, not for weight loss. I am scared as all i can see in my head is the old heavy girl that hated looking in the mirror each day. BUT I am NOT that girl anymore and I have to let her go. I thank you all for the support you have given me through my competition journey and I know I can count on you for support durng this new and way more difficult journey! Chat Icon

Re: A new journey begins today!

As someone who has struggled with this in the past, you will find that it isn't easy but I know you can definitely do it! Once I stopped obsessing with food and looking at the gym as a chore, I began enjoying both so much more. Putting away the scale is a huge step in the right direction. You have the support here as I am sure you have IRL as well. As far as fearing the girl from your past, dont, she is a major part of who you are today. You know what you want and what you don't want and I truly believe you will find a happy medium between both extremes as I have come to realize. We are all here for you and best of luck!!!! FM if you ever need anything!

Ditto to all of this.

Honestly when I stopped thinking & obsessing over food I was so much happier. I work out less, I eat more (and anything I want) & i actually think i look the same Chat Icon

I agree. It's not an easy journey but once you get there you realize life can not be judged by the numbers on a scale. You are gorgeous inside and out. Now it's time to be healthy inside and out ...Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: A new journey begins today!

Thanks ladies!

Day 2 with no weighing in. Feels so strange.

I've also decided that since I am not trying to lose weight, I need to decrease my protein and increase my carbs, It is so hard for me to do this because for SO long I have been eating low carb, high protein. I am not sure how to build meals this way! Thinking of trying some new vegetarian meal ideas!

Any suggestions?

Girl! After eating like that you deserve a big bowl of pasta with homemade bologenese sauce! And pecorino. Don't forget the pecorino Chat Icon As for veg dinners I have a few ideas I can send to you via FM...will do so later!

I always have soups in the fridge. Broth or bean based. Vegetable, chunky chicken breast with brown rice, lentil, black bean, pink bean, escarole, lean beef broth. I use carbs but nothing fluffy white like white rice, pasta, noodles etc. extra gets frozen for lazy nights when I don't want to cook

Re: A new journey begins today!

Thanks ladies. Been having a difficult time with this new journey but can tell you I have not given up yet. I have only weighed in once for last week. My weight pretty much stayed right where it was even with my increase in carbohydrates. My nutritionist increased my calories again this week sow e shall see.

I have been increasing my calories mainly by way of adding fruits and veggies. Consequently, I am SO bloated! Anyone have any tips? I feel like a huge balloon! Of course my crazy mind sees/feels it worse than it actually is I am sure but still..it's uncomfy! Thanks!

Try drinking more water. The bloating is probably from the extra fiber in the fruit and veg and the, um, gas they createChat Icon Try taking a GasX.
