 Fire Island Girls
Any tips? I've never been there before! I might be going Monday, and I didn't even know it was the kind of place you could go for a day. I literally know nothing, so anything you can say is helpful. I think the people I'm going with mentioned a parade?
Also, I'm going with a couple on their anniversary, is there somewhere there I can buy a nice gift that's really "fire island" or someplace I can get them a gift certificate to come back to?

There are different towns on Fire Island. Is it the Ice Palace Hotel?

 Re: Fire Island Girls
Do people actually go for a day? If FH stays with me, maybe I can convince him to stay overnight. Is it weird for straight couples to stay in cherry grove, or do a lot of people do it? Are there only "gay only" hotels or something?
I know I probably sound ignorant, but I really have no clue

I just looked it up, I realized it's not THAT far out. I guess for people who live out in suffolk, it's just a quick jaunt.

 Re: Fire Island Girls
Is it going to totally **** if it's not warm out?
ETA: Are there any hotels near the ferry, so we can take the ferry back over and then stay in a hotel so we don't have to drive home at that hour?

I have only gone to Cherry Grove when they have had Miss Fire Island and a ton of straight people go. I am sure there will be straight people there but it is predominately gay. You can go for the day and hang on the beach. At night the clubs will be HOT! I believe the Cherry Grove ferry is out of Sayville so check around that area.

There are hotels in Cherry Grove but they may either have no vacancies or be really expensive, just so you know.
It doesn't s uck if it's not warm. You'll want to bring something to wear on the ferry anyway, especially if you want to sit on the upper level.

 Re: Fire Island Girls
I think Cherry Grove is a blast! I have a few friends that are gay and they even own businesses over there.
The Hotel situation over there can be iffy but hey, no need to get a hotel if you're going to be over there on Saturday night. Come by the Ambersmom Motel where we always have room I'm not too far from the Ferry!

 Re: Fire Island Girls
You'll have a lot of fun at the Ice Palace. I worked in Cherry Grove for 7 summers and it was a lot of fun. A family friend owned the grocery store there (he sold it now) The Miss Fire Island contest is definately something to see. I have not been able to convince DH to go for a visit with me though.
  Edited for spelling
ETA: It is predominately gay however, everyone who worked with me in the grocery store were straight and there are many straight people that go there to party. It is a just a "fun" atmosphere
