How much is YOUR lipa bill?
I have a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath split. Since we've moved in we've gotten 2 bills that were over 400 for Lipa (bi-monthly billing). After the first bill, we shut down our hot tub and we were away for 2 weeks in september with noone staying at our house. The bill went down to 415 from 447. I feel like it should've gone down much more and still feel it's too high. The Lipians are talking to me like a moron- giving me lists of things that use electricity (duh.).
Anyway- how much do you pay, approx?

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
We are billed monthly. Obviously, our summer bills are higher because of the CAC. Over the past few years, I've averaged the bills per month and we average about $185/mo.
ETA: we have a 4 bedroom, 3 bath hi ranch, about 1880 sq. ft.

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
We have a 4 bedroom splanch house 2200sq ft with CAC. We just got a bill for $537 but that was 2 months. On average when the CAC is not on, we get a hill for $150. In the summer months, its about $320 a month.

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
4 bedroom, 2 bath - cape. No central A/C - had 3 window units running during the summer.
Billed monthly - $138 a month on balanced billing.
We also have National Grid - that's about $120 a month on balanced billing.
Do you also have gas or oil? That could make a big difference in your LIPA bill if all of your major appliances are being run off electric.

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
We have oil. We have 2 window units, the one in our bedroom was being run at night during the summer and the other one was just on from about 4-8pm.

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
Balance billing $123/month last year it was $140/month. We have a 4br 2 bath split.
We have all electric appliances but all our bulbs are CFLs and I think it really does help keep costs down plus we've been living here for 4 years and have not had to replaced any bulbs yet

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
We have a pretty large 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom house with a basement and ours ranges from 75-120 a month. We never leave lights on, and I only do laundry once a week. The dryer uses a lot of electricity, plus the fridge. Do you have regular lighbulbs?

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
We're on balanced billing, $107 a month - no air conditioning at all, just ceiling fans.
First thing to do is inspect the details of your bill and make sure you're being billed for residential and not commercial property. There have been recent articles in Newday about homeowners that were being billed under commercial rates (DH's office is about 1500 sq. feet and he pays over $400 a month) Look on the back. Right above the area that says Electric Usage with the actual and estimated meter readings it should say something like LIPA Rate 180 - Residential, General Use. If it say Commercial or something else call LIPA to discuss the reasons.
Anything that generates heat will pull a lot of electric - hot water heater, dryer, dishwasher, hair dryer, to name a few. Running the washer, dryer and dishwasher at night saves money, the rates are cheaper at night. We're fastidious about turning off lights if we're not in the room and we have a lot of the energy efficient bulbs too. Small things that draw energy are anything plugged in, ie: leaving your phone charger plugged in even if you're not charging a phone - it's a small amount, but enough things like that can add a few dollars a month. We unplugged the clock radio in the guest room because the only time it was even looked at was when we changed the time for daylight savings changes!

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
$335 per month for LIPA. Our kespan bill is $235 per month. We have a large 5 bedroom house but no cathedral ceilings or anything like that. Your bill sounds high. Do you have electric heat?

Re: How much is YOUR lipa bill?
I had one bill last year that was -$6 for the entire month.....
We average just under $90 per month. I love solar panels.....
ETA: 3000 s/f house with CAC, and two DC that love electricity...
I figured out how much we use from LIPA, and how much the panels produce, and I produce about 2/3 of our power, so without the panels, we would be spending close to $300/month on average.

Your hot tub would not use a lot of electricity during the summer/fall. So I doubt that is the reason for your high bills.
My hot tub only uses about $40-50 a month in the coldest days of winter when it's running constantly to maintain the temp.

sq feet but we are 16 rooms, 2 stories with dual zone CAC (I think they are 16 ser)
