Car Advice
Here is my dilemma- I need your help! My little 2-dr honda civic is ready to retire. I am pregnant and need to upgrade to something larger. My criteria- small suv, good storage and space, 4 cylinder/good gas milage (I drive almost 100 miles round trip each day for work). I will be buying, not leasing, if that matters. I'm not opposed to a pre-owned, but am considering new as well. Price will play a part along with good quality that lasts over time. Not looking to re-sell in just a couple of years most likely. I will be looking to buy within the next few weeks, so if anyone has any dealers they recommend, please pass on the info.
What do you suggest?!?!!? Thanks!

Re: Car Advice
i highly recommend smithtown toyota. Between our two families, we have purchased five vehicles there.
If Hyundai hadnt offered me a fantasic deal on the Sante Fe I would have purchased the Toyota Rav-4 and I looked and priced almost that was on your list. I felt the Tuscon was way too small.

Re: Car Advice
I would say it is a toss up between the CRV and the RAV 4 - The RAv 4 is my pick though. I rented one a few years back and loved it....Wish I could afford one

Re: Car Advice
its not on your list but i HIGHLY recommend the mazda cx7 or cx9. we just financed a cx7 and LOOOOVE it! we were in a small sedan before too and didn't want anything too big so the mazda is perfect. we got a great deal on the price and our monthly payment is affordable. i would definitely recommend checking it out. we live in westchester county so we ended up buying from a dealer up here but i've heard good things about wantagh mazda.
good luck!!

Yup I read your list and didn't see you had this car on it. We leased a CX9 about a year ago after the ladies on here gave such great raves about them.
We dealt with Wantagh Mazda and they were excellent to deal with.
I would probably go with the smaller CX7 though if you are looking to save on the gas mileage.
We wanted the 3rd row which is why we went with the CX9.
When I first got it, I also got a few comments from people that it looks like similar, luxury SUVs.

Re: Car Advice
My MIL has a CRV. It's nice but really small and she had issues with it. Personally, I'd go with a Mazda as others have suggested.

Re: Car Advice
We were in the same position a few yrs back (2007) trying to decide between a Rav4 and a CRV. We went with the V6 Rav4 for a few resons-major one being we could get a third row. We needed it and have used it in a pinch many times. Its fine for kids under ten. The other reason being cargo space. Rav4 has so much more space than the CRV. The CRV had just been redesigned at that time for a more aerodynamic shape-unfortunately it lost a lot of cargo room. However, we were very impressed with the smooth ride of the CRV. The gas mileage on our Rav4 is not that great-we get about 23-25 on highway-but its a V6-if you with V4 you should get better mileage than that. I spent nearly a month getting quotes online and researching what the bottom line price should be. Edmunds.com is an invaluable tool-they have great articles and even a price chart. We dealt with Huntington Toyota (i think they have changed owners since then). Good Luck!

Re: Car Advice
I have a cx-7 and love it. I also like that it is based on a car chassis and not a truck body so you are lower to the ground than other SUVs and cross over models.

My SIL has one, and I felt the same way about it being super-tiny, as I borrowed it a couple times when the car I had before my CX9 broke down.
I had a Ford Focus before my CX9 and I didn't want something too too big (DH was looking at truck-based SUVs). I think this was a good compromise for us.

Re: Car Advice
Two more to consider in the same price range are the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Kia Sorento. Both come in 4 cylin. With great gas mileage and have the 100,000 mile warranty. If you are going to buy I'd get big enough for 2 kids just in case
