Long Car Trip Coming Up- Advice?

Well, we're driving down to Georgia this coming weekend for a wedding, and I'll be 28 weeks. I'm absolutely dreading the car ride (I hate long trips always, even when I'm not preggo, I'm very impatient!!), but trying to make the best of it. We're going in our new minivan, so it is very comfy & spacious, and we're going with BIL & SIL, so it will be fun.

But I'm looking for advice from other ladies who may have taken a long trip while pregnant. What should I bring/pack/do in the car to be more comfy and TRY to stay sane?

This is what I bought/am bringing so far:
-toilet seat covers & antibacterial wipes for scary rest stops!
-blanket & pillow
-lots of water
-Ipod

I was thinking of maybe getting a small travel pillow for behind my back if I get uncomfortable. And, I can't read in the car, so no books or magazines.

If you really get uncomfortable sit in the way back and put the middle seat down so you can keep your feet up.. and plan to stop. Look now where you can . Potomic Mills in MD is good it is about 5 hours from NY and there are great outlets there:). There is also great outlets on 95 in Smithfield NC .. and you have to stop at south of the border to take cheesy pictures:)
Also if you have a portable DVD player.. that will help pass the time
Good luck ...

Oh, good tips, thank you!!! We're staying over Friday night in North Carolina somewhere, I know that, so the trip will be broken up just a little, I mean we'll sleep for 7 hours and get back in the car for the rest of the trip. But I could always shop!!! Chat Icon

All I have to say is YOU ARE A TROOPER! I had to go to NJ for a wedding this weekend and I was getting a bit nutty from that distance.

I'd bring some tylenol, in case you get a headache.

Oh, believe me, I am NOT happy about the car ride AT ALL, I wish we had other options!! I wasn't PG when we booked the trip, and flights are ridiculously expensive because this weekend starts spring break for a lot of schools, plus we need acar while we're there. I really think DH & the other couple will try to tie me to the roof before we're even out of New Jersey!!! Chat Icon I am NOT looking forward to being in the car at all!!!!!!!! And, we're leaving to go down there on Friday, and we're leaving Georgia on Tuesday afternoon to come back, we're barely going to be there to relax, you know?

Take plenty of breaks so you can walk.

Make sure you stop and walk. Long trips can exacerbate varicose veins, if you have any so be careful and wear comfy clothing!

Definitely. Take lots of pee breaks. Don't hold it in like I did yesterday Chat Icon I brought nutra-grain bars, almonds, water, snack stuff Chat Icon Bring fruit. Maybe a little cooler with some veggies and dip.

My best piece of advice [as I've done this while very pregnant], is stop A LOT. You will get quite antsy and more sore/stiff from sitting than the others. We [my mom, my sister and i] drove a 12 hour trip to FL [for a funeral] and it took us nearly 18 b/c I had to get out of the car and NOT be sitting. We would walk around Wal-Mart if we had to!

Re: Long Car Trip Coming Up- Advice?

We drove down to Florida and I think I was about 20 weeks.

I made sure I had my pillow (a must have)
my Blanket
snacks
lots of water
and comfy shoes (after a while you do not want to be in shoes anymore - I had flip flops on most of the time)

Make sure you stop to walk around - you need to keep your blood circulating.

And make sure you have your sunglasses - cause the glare of the sun on the dashboard will kill ya!! Bring some tylenol - just in case!!

If I think of anything else, I will let you know :)
