Heard the such a mean thing this morning
I was in the bagel shop this morning on my way to work and there was a woman standing behind me with her two little girls.
The younger of the two told her mother she was thirsty, and the mother said "oh, cry me a river why don't you?"
Then the mother was talking to the older girl (the girls looked to be around 7 and 4 or 5). And she said "You're so pretty, how did you get all the pretty in the world? But thank you for sharing at least a little of it with your sister"
I thought that was soooooooo mean! My mother used to do things like that to me when we were all growing up, and I grew up with such a low self esteem.
It was very clear which daughter the mother favored.

Omg I'm sorry that is hysterical!!!  Depends on how it was said of course... but it speaks to the way things are now...back in the day it was "if you keep misbehaving/crying/etc I'm sending you to the orphanage" or something to that effect (at least that's what I got  )
Not as damaging as what that mother said to the two little girls though... that's so sad

That's awful!
This mother was also telling the younger girl, she didn't like her hair because it was too flat. I wanted to smack her!
Growing up the way I did, I'm so sensitive about these types of things.

That's aweful! I would have wanted to say such a snide comment to that "Mom" deep down inside. I am really sensitive to esteem issues too.It was my Dad and older Sister that could say and do such cruel things to me . In my case it was always weight related issues . I fought a long time to get that negative crap out of my head so I didn't do that stuff to my own DD's. This topic really struck a chord with me as I'm sure you can tell. Mean and ignorant people just suck!
