pediatric dermatologist-please don't move.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a Pediatric dermatologist in the central/northern Nassau area. My son is 2 weeks old and has a birthmark that my pediatrician wants checked out, but the doctor she recommended of course doesn't take my insurance. She recommended Dr. Krystal. I've heard of a Dr. Funt and a Dr. Lupenko in Garden City, but I'm not sure if either are good or if there is someone else we should see. Thanks in advance for your help!

I know it is far but Dr. Krystal takes insurance at their stoneybrook location in east setauket. My DD has been going to him for 2 years and I was just there the other day.
If you don't want to go to the suffolk office I am told that the other doctor in his office in lake success does take insurance that dr. crystal does not. Seems weird but that is what i have heard. I also heard the other dr is very good as well. I like in sayville so the trip to see him out here wasn't a big deal for me.

We use Dr. Hayman in Lake Success...totally love him and he knows his stuff! He works in the same office as Dr. Kristal, but our insurance covers Dr. Hayman, not Kristal

My son also saw Dr. Hayman and he took our insurance! He was so nice and easy to talk to. Good luck!

We were going to Dr. Kristal, but will find a new one this summer - dd has eczema in the summertime- We were on vacation last month and I forgot to bring the ointment to treat her rash and of course she broke out b/c we were in Florida and it was hot - we called them to ask for a refill at a local cvs and they refused b/c we hadn't been there in 9 months - Yes - I understand that is a standard policy... BUT a) we were only told to go 1 time per year, b) we were on VACATION! Seriously, you can't help out a patient??? I was furious - we ended up calling our regular pediatrician and they were happy to call in the prescription for us. But I will be switching dermatologists... thanks for starting this thread - there appears to be several that are closer to us that we should consider...

I personally go to Dr. Funt and Dr. Lupenko, they are great, Dr. Funt takes months to get an appointment, You are better off with Lupenko, or there is also Dr. Koss in that office who is a mommy and also very good with children. Carlie saw Dr. Koss, but then she went and got Funt and Lupenko to come in and get their opinions too.
They are all great and I have been going to them since I was a teenager.

They don't take our insurance either. It is so frustrating.

ets: just saw that they don't take your insurance. sorry. If it helps at all, on the same paper that had Hayman/Kristal info from my Ped, they list:
Dr. Joseph Onorato in Garden City 516-488-1313
and
Dr. Russel Cohen & Dr. Craig Kornreich in Oceanside 516-766-0345
and
Dr. Craig Kornreich in Levittown 516-520-5280
I know nothing about them other than they were on the recommended Dermatologists list from my Ped. HTH

I've used Dr. Funt and personally didn't care for her. I've also used Dr. Rhona Susser in East Meadow. Liked her but her staff is not too friendly or helpful.
Now, I take both DD's to Dr. Lily Paraskevas in Garden City. She's so sweet and caring and very patient with little ones. She's in the building on Franklin Ave right past the post office.

Have you tried Dr. Deborah Sarnoff (she is a dermatologic surgeon and her husband is a plastic surgeon). She is an expert on lasers and has taught as adjunct professor at NYU for years.
She is in Greenvale. THey successfully removed and repaired a very invasive skin cancer that was on my cheek.
