Work-related issue
I had my first appointment with an RE today and I realized there is quite a time committment involved. I also got the distinct impression that the RE expects me to work with his schedule not vice versa. Naturally, this is going to be interfering with work. I don't want to tell my partner at my office why I need to come in late or duck out early but I need to have some type of reason. Have any of you gone through this? How did you handle it with your boss?

Re: Work-related issue
Honestly, I was open with my boss (principal). I told him a few times I had to leave for a dr's appt and after the 2nd time when he questioned if everything was ok, I said it was for fertility. However- I have a close relationship with my boss and was comfortable sharing this with him. I found being out in the open made him very understanding and he always said such sweet things, that he was rooting for me, etc.
Now that we're going down that path again, I know I'll appreciate the support.

Re: Work-related issue
i would definitely be honest with your boss if you can...
When i first found out about the ectopic and i had to take a few days... i was out 6 days over 2 weeks and i ended up telling my boss exactly what was going on... and like you we have a great relationship... and he was very understanding and told me numerous times that if i needed to leave earlly or anything just let him know... and his wife even called me to see how i was doing a week or two later...

Re: Work-related issue
I had to go for monitoring very early in the AM and I work in NYC. For the most part I made it in ontime, but before everything I told my manager I had a personal issue that needed my attention and I may be in late some mornings. I did not feel comfortable telling her such personal business.

Re: Work-related issue
If you fell comfortable telling your boss then I would tell him/her. I told my boss and suprisingly enough, he was ok and evey now and then he will ask how is everything going.

Re: Work-related issue
i am in the same boat. i don't feel comfortable telling my boss yet so i plan to just say that I have some medical issues that i am seeing a dr about. I don't think I need to give her more specific info at this point.

This is where I was headed. I am sure he would be very understanding but almost too understanding...as in concerned. I don't want anyone to be worrying that something is wrong with me, KWIM? At the same time I am an attorney and I don't want the fact that I am TTC interfering with work. Meaning, I don't want the higher ups thinking about that (either intentionally or unintentionally) when they are assigning work, determining raises, determining bonuses, etc.
The problem with me is that I'm so routine with how I work that cutting out early, coming in late or leaving for a while and returning is going to catch their attention. Maybe if I just chalk it up to "girl problems", he won't ask.

Re: Work-related issue
This is one of my biggest fears. I looked online and there are no REs affiliated with my hospital (Southampton) through Aetna. I work in Bridgehampton, there is no way I can trek to Stonybrook during the week unless it's after 6 at night. I work 7:30-4:30, so I can't go in the am either. My ob/gyn does IUIs, but if we have to do the route of IVF, I have no idea what to do.

Re: Work-related issue
Do you work out or have any athletic injuries or something else you can blame it on? ie.. a chiropractor or physical therapy appt that you need to go to 1x a week or every other week?
Or can you just say its personal and you have a medical issue and have to have a few tests run. And then just leave it at that. I dunno if you have to disclose anything, medical stuff is usually confidential you know? So dont feel you have to tell them!

Re: Work-related issue
My company offer something called FMLA intermittent leave, which I applied for. This gives me the freedom to miss work to go to appointment. Its not paid or anything but it does protect my job.
