Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
heart murmurs are very common. So many ppl have them, including children. often they are nothing to worry about and just need to be monitored.
I'd take her to a Ped Cardiologist for a ekg/echo.

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
yes, our Ped heard one in DS when he was born. they havent picked it up since.
when they are little and they go through growth spurts, sometimes they have murmurs. usually, they go away on their own.
my mother has one, my cat has one. they occur often and sometimes, thats just how the heart is.
they might send her for more testing DS had an EKG and an eccho. We have to follow up again with a pediatric cardiologist at 1 year

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
Luke has a murmur. His ped heard it the day after he was born, in the hospital. He had an Echocardiogram done and it showed that it wasn't anything to worry about. I still worry but I trust the ped. when he says it's no big deal. My sister also has a murmur and she is a very healthy 40 year old with 3 kids.

DD had one. She has been to her ped a million times and he never once said it was a problem.

DD had one and within three years it had fully fixed itself. She's murmur free! I had freaked out initially when the pediatrician told me, but the pediatric cardiologist immediately put me at ease!

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
I have a heart murmur and mitral valve prolapse and I am ok
I would take her to a ped. cardiologist to do an echo and make sure it is nothing more serious but lots of people have murmurs and nothing ever comes of it. I could give you the name of my ped. cardiologist that I went to and also took TJ too when he was born but they are way out by me in Roslyn, affiliated with St. Francis. I am sure you can find someone closer to you.

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
My sister has had one for as long as I can remember. She's never had an issue, and even underwent major surgery without a problem. The only thing she has to be careful with is dental work - she gets antibiotics about 24 hours beforehand to prevent infection, that's all.

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
Yes, DD was diagnosed with one at her 3 year check up. We followed up with a cardiologist, where they did a sono. She has an "innocent murmur". She never has to go back, and will never be excluded from any physical activity. The cardiologist said she may outgrow it.

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
My sister and I both have one always have. DD also has one. The Dr. called it an innocent heart murmur and said it is very common and harmless.

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
My sister has one and probably has had one since he was a child. But she did not find out until she was PG with my niece.
She will need to be monitored. Plenty of people have them without knowing.

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
My ped found that my DS had a heart murmuer when he was about 4 weeks old. She sent us to a ped cardiologist and they did a sonogram, ekg, took his bp - I was a mess. Dr said he thought it was an "innocent murmur" and expected it to close. We went back when DS was about 8 months and it had indeed closed. Thecardiologist said that we were to have no concerns regarding anything regarding his heart and that he had absolutely no limitations.
Don't freak out. go see a pediatric cardiologist and get it checked out but it's probably nothing.

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
They heard one for the first time last week with Andy, but said it was very "innocent" sounding and that they'd be surprised if they heard it next year but if they do we'll talk about next steps. Easier said than done.
My friend's DS had one when he was born, he went to St. Francis hospital in Roslyn and had a bunch of tests done and then again a year later and it was much better, and by the year after it was totally gone.

Re: Does anyone have any experience with heart murmurs in their children?
DS was diagnosed with a murmur at a month old. He goes for an EKG and Echo once a year to monitor it. They cant find anything on either, they just hear it so they continue to monitor it.
