My mom just called me crying...Updated...
Our dog Maggie has tumors in her intestines and liver, and she also has pneumonia. I am so upset, even though I have not lived there in years, I love this dog so much. She's got the best personality. We got her after her original owner threw her from a car window. She really only has full use of three legs, but she gets around so well, and she truly has the sweetest disposition. We are going down to see my family on Sunday, and it may be the last time I get to see her.

Thanks for your support everyone. My mom talked to the vet yesterday and the results of the bloodwork (liver enzymes, kidney function, white cell count) were surprisingly good. The vet is still fairly certain that there's cancer, but it may not be as dire as first thought and she may be able to hang in for a little while (as long as she's not suffering). But she still has to kick the pneumonia.

My mom put Maggie down a few days ago. She really, really tried to get better, but it was the pneumonia that did it. I feel terrible but she had a good life, my mom really took great care of her for the ten years she had her. It's going to be weird to go there and not have her greet me at the door next time I visit...

My heart goes out to you, your mother, and rest of your family.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent. Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
