Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
how long does the decor in your child's room last?
meaning, how long until you change it to something new.
I was thinking of (FINALLY) doing Luce's room up at our house and I was thinking of either doing all Le Petit Prince or a mix of classic books that we (er, I) love (Peter Rabbit, Le Petit Prince, the Wind in the Willows, Brier Rabbits, etc.
but I am super el cheapo. and I and concerened that I am going to spend all this money only to do it all over again sooner than the sting to my wallet wears off.
so anyway, especially BTDT's...how often have you changed your child's room decor over the years?

Not for a while for John.I did a sports theme so he could grow into a toddler with that.

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
I just posted a similiar question the other day....I decorated DS's room very baby-ish - but he is getting to be such a little boy now, I ordered some more "boy-ish" valances and a crib skirt to make the room a little more toddler-ish.

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
Claire's room could have lasted her through age 5 or 6, until she asked for something new. But, we moved her into a different room when Owen was born ( I could kick myself for not putting her in the other room in the first place), so we did it twice. But, she didn't really have a theme, just a color scheme so her stuff worked well in the nursery and in her big girl room.
Owen's room has some sailboat stuff, but the basic colors are easily updated for other "themes". I would just make sure that the furniture/color scheme works for other themes-accessories are easy to change out as your son grows.
I am also the kind of person that gets bored easily so I like updating stuff every couple of years.

I redecorate rooms (not just DS) like my house is on fire.
DS had a winnie the pooh nursery and now has a vintage americana themed room that can grow with him.
Youre best bet, IMO, is do what you love, but do it with art, accessories, etc. Keep the major elements, furniture, paint, even bedding as something neutral that can grow with him and just change out the accesories.

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
Robbie and Noah had a juvenile themed nursery - it was classic Winnie the Pooh border with neutral walls and oak furniture. If we were still in the apartment, they could still be there.. although I would have taken down the border.
Their current bedroom hasn't changed since we moved into our home 4 years ago. It's a 'space' theme which will probably carry them through until they are teens. Honestly - they don't spend a whole lot of time in their room anyway - it's a place to read quietly or sleep and that's it so I don't really see the decor as an issue with it really.
The playroom - on the other hand - has gone through various different changes in 4 years as they have grown and changed. It was shelves full of toy cars and trucks.. then it was a kitchen and a store and grocery carts.. then tool benches .. then dragons and dinosaurs. For a while now it's been video games and sports equipment.

DSs bedding is the transportation set from LON. I hope it lasts until he is 6 or 7. DD still has her infant set and it will not get changed until she is in a twin bed. I hope to have another year or 2 out of it.

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
I purposefully chose a nursery set that could grow with him as a little boy. It's sports themed, a little plaid, a little corduroy, darker colors. We don't have lots of expendable cash laying around and looking back it's one of the smarter decisions I've made. Once he goes into a big boy bed...even if it's not till he's four!, he can still use the same valance on his windows, the same wall decor, the same lamp, etc. I'll just get him a full size comforted that match the colors of the set.

I just repainted DDs room and changed the window treatments since DS will be sharing the room with her soon, but otherwise nothing has changed.
I like babies but I don't care for babyish decor so she hasn't "outgrown" it yet. She'll be in a different bed before she does, I'm sure.

My kids have very neutral rooms and furniture. I added in stuff with the accessories. thats what I would do in your case. Neutreal walls, furniture and area rug with pictures, lamps etc to bring in the ideas

DD's room is very girly but we kept the wall colors and furniture neutral so that when we change/update it, we can do so with mostly accessories.
This is what her decor is now. Planning to keep it like this for a while (since I LOVE it )

Liam has a nursery decor room (Froggy Tales). I don't see us changing it until he is at least 4-5 years or we move and he gets a "big boy room"

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
The boys' room is very neutral - sage green/beige walls, hardwood floors with a sage green rug - no bedding sets or anything like that. I have some monkey decals up, monkey lamp, etc. I will probably take that down when they move to big boy beds at which point I will also change the bedding. Other than that, no plans to change it! Pics are in my album if you are interested.

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
DS' room was very "bland".... aka white walls and color was through wall art prints/frames. I can't imagine changing that often everything.
Now, at 3 yo, I am swithing now to a new "theme" because DS is going in a big boy bed and I am removing his baby furniture.
I plan on keeping the new theme (all american boating type) until DS is 10-12yo, then I will switch again to his liking.

Once for Alex, but that's probably because we didn't know what we were having so her room was very gender neutral. When she turned 4, she boisterously voiced her opinion that she was deserving of a pink/purple room, which we conceded to in order to get her buy-in to move to a different room so we could use her old room for the nursery for Yael.

We did colors/bedding that could go into teens, but we will move before that. #1 has primary colors (PBK Kasey Stripe bedding); #2 has blue stripes (three tones)

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
We changed the girls at about 5 or 6 and my son is 4 and poor guy is still in the "nursery" motiff. We have removed all the "baby references but we have yet to paint his room a different color than yellow. We have changed over the drapes and comforter set, etc.
The girls rooms can grow with them, all the characters are gone and I am waiting for the day they request posters and such ;)

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
Sasha is 17 months and we are moving-- so, I am taking the opportunity to make her room *a little* more mature. But, her room is not baby-ish AT ALL... Which I think is important so the room can grow with your kid. Her walls are and will be yellow again-- and her furniture is a hodge podge of stuff that all goes, and her crib is red.
I am using all the same bedding, but I got some new sheets that coordinate, that are a little older looking.
Here is my crib bedding:

and the rug:
And then I got sheets in this fabric and changing pad covers:

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
I love the color of DD's nursery, but I wish it was more girly. I didn't find out what I was having so it's pretty gender neutral. I did switch out the area rug to a pink flowery one, but that was more because the yellow shag was already looking pretty dingy.

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
Not very often.... We never found out if she was a boy or a girl, so we made the nursery neutral. It stayed that way for about 3 years until she went into her bed, and then we made it more girly....we didn't paint, just added some pink accents and new bedding. Not a ton of money, but a totally new look.
Same with her playroom....it was neutral (ugly) before, and now that her personality is forming more, we were able to figure out what would make her happy and change it to suit her.
I dont' know what we'll do if she has another personality makeover in the next few years....because I'm not a fan of redoing a room every 3 years!! So these better last a little while!

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
We are just now changing DS's room at 22 moths, and plan on keeping it this way until he's old enough to ask for a change. DD's room was decorated so that it would grow with her (it's painted yellow and the bedding is blue, yellow, green etc.) and again, we'll change it when she gets old enough to tell us she wants something new!

Re: Question about room decor? how often do you switch it out/change it up?
DS is only 18 months so it hasn't happened yet. We didn't really give him a super baby room so I think we have a few years.
We bought this house when SS was 10, so he got a new room then, he is 14 now and hasn't changed anything - although I am thinking in the next few years we will.
A good friend of mine just redecorated her sons room this year (he was entering kindergarten), she said you could barely see the original theme under all of the sports posters and paraphernalia, so she figured it was time!

DS "nursery" is simple, bear and brown themed. He is 2 and still using it.
His big boy room which is nearing completion, finally, is sport themed and blue. I am hoping it will take him through to the teens, but I know that's a stretch

I think the same exact thing as you. Sydnie's room was not too babyish but she's almost 2 and I am bored with it! I'm glad I didn't spend a ton on a nursery. I'm thinking for her 3rd birthday we'll redo her room.
