35 weeks and had my first insulting comment
Okay let me preface this by saying that it takes a lot to insult me. People have called me fat, my SIL calls me fatty fat kidding around, etc throughout my pregnant and i could care less. I honestly don't care because i know it's the furthest from the truth.
However i just had my first insulting comment. This older woman comes up behind me at the checkout line and says "due any day now?" Now even that doesn't bother me. I tell her no that i'm due in the beginning of July. Well the look on her face!!! She goes "oh really? is it twins?"
OKAY SERIOUSLY LADY??? SERIOUSLY???
Most people tell me that i'm quite small and this lady thinks i'm having twins??? Are you freakin serious???
Okay i just had to get that out. I know people say stupid things and make rude comments all the time without thinking, but for the first time ever... i was insulted!

Re: 35 weeks and had my first insulting comment
It's funny how people can view the same thing so differently. In the same afternoon I've heard "you're so tiny, what are you 7 months?" and "are you sure there's only one in there?" Honestly, you can't take it personally - too many people suffer from "diarrhea of the mouth syndrome"...

Re: 35 weeks and had my first insulting comment
i think there will always be one or two people that will just say the dumbest things. Ive been hearing the twin comment from strangers and even friends since i was 12 weeks! The other day at the food store, the checkout lady goes, when are you due, September? I was like what? Im due in 2 weeks.. and im pretty huge from what everyone keeps telling me, so I guess it goes both ways. People just dont think before they speak.

Re: 35 weeks and had my first insulting comment
The nurse at the OB office today asked me if I was having twins.
I have to say the twins comment is totally the most insulting I've received (numerous times).

Re: 35 weeks and had my first insulting comment
Can I add my two cents?
I've been heavy my whole life. I've been asked if I'm pregnant MANY times before I was even THINKING about becoming pregnant, and that was definitely insulting to me.
But--I don't know, maybe since this is my first pregnancy and I haven't been there yet--why would the size of your pregnant belly be a source of embarrassment for you? So what if you look like you're "ready to go" and you still have a few weeks to go? The baby largely determines how big you're going to get...I guess I'm just having trouble understanding why that's a sore subject.
A good friend that I teach with is also due in July, and she's HUGE. She literally looks like she's a few weeks overdue, and we always tease her about it...asking if maybe there's another one hiding in there that they haven't found yet! She laughs about it and SWEARS it doesn't bother her.
People will be idiots, that will always be true--but it's not like you went on an eating binge and put on 100 lbs. and people are asking you about your tummy then.
I don't know, I think I'm rambling...but for me, I'm actually thinking, the bigger I get, the better! I want the WORLD to know I'm pregnant!
ETA: I don't mean to sound like a b****...maybe I just really don't understand how that comment is really that insulting.

No i understand what you're saying. I really do.
I guess what i find insulting about it is being asked if it's twins and that question within itself.
I've never had a weight problem and i've always been very secure with my body, even pregnancy body.
But what i don't get is why people think that that question is okay? I mean 99% of the time... the person isn't having twins and 100% of the time, you've just insulted that person. So why ask the question when the outcome will always be bad!
What if i wasn't secure with how i looked? What if i already felt like sh*t and thought i looked like it too?
All i'm saying is that you could call me as big as a house and i wouldn't care. I'm okay with how i look. But what about those that aren't? Do you see what i'm saying?
I think i'm rambling now too!

Re: 35 weeks and had my first insulting comment
People are so insensitive when it comes to pregnant women.
I had a few people at work tell me every single day that there was no way I wasn't having twins. The doctors were all wrong and they just couldn't find the second baby.
Thank god my kid was almost 10lbs and I didn't have some little 5lb baby Then people really would have talked!
