3 year olds - carseats
what do you have your 3 year old in? Our DS is still in a myride65 and he will be three tomorrow. He is about 39 inches and 34lbs.
I am thinking about a high back booster?

Keep him in the Myride until he outgrows it.. So much safer in a 5 point harness.. High back boosters are for older children... The MyRide should be good for him for a few more years...

My 3.5 is in the 5 point harness booster called Britax Frontier 85-SICT. he was at the height requirement on his marathon.
My DS who will be 3 in July will be in the same seat as his brother then too bc he's outgrowing his marathon 70

Emerson is still in a 5pt harness. But shes still tiny at 36" and only 28lbs
she will prob stay in that for a long time lol

You have to be at least 40 lbs for the high back boosters. I agree 5 point harness is te safest!! My 6 year old is still in the 5 point!

My 2-year old uses Diono, and my 1-year old uses Diono also (rear facing). My 6-year old uses a booster seat for short trips but uses his Radian (old version of Diono) also for long trips. Safe, slim, sturdy, 5-pt harness... We love it. :)

I have my DS in a Graco Argos - it has a 5pt harness but, converts eventually to a high back booster and then to a regular booster (I felt it made more sense to get him a new seat instead of getting a new convertible for DS 2).
If I could do it again, I'd probably opt for the Britax seat though - the Graco, although cheaper, is difficult to buckle and the straps are difficult to adjust.

We brought this seat back. It made me crazy. I was so hard to tighten the straps. And the straps where hard to unbuckle.
We got a Evenflow Symphony 3-1, and I love it. We have a Britax as well and it's a good seat.
To anwser the original post. My four year old is still in a 5 point harness and I have no plans on switching him any time soon.

DS will be 3 in June. He is in the Britax Blvd forward facing. I would like to keep him in there for as long as possible. He is 40lbs and 40.5" tall. We have at high back booster with a 5 point harness in my MIL's car for him. He rarely rides with her and we didn't want to spend the money on a car seat for him in a car that he rides maybe twice a year. I figure by the time he rides in grandma's car he'll be 4 yrs old already.

3.5 year old still in her convertible car seat. First Years True Fit
She's still comfy and not complaining. So dont plan on switching her anytime soon. She's about 39 inches and 38 lbs.

DD is also 39 inches and 34 lbs at 3 1/2. She is in a Britax Blvd. The age minimum for a high back booster is 4 years old, so you have at least another year before your can switch. My son is in the 99% for height and we switched him at 4 years old to a HBB. (He is now 5 1/2 and the height of an average seven year old. He is very tall). I can see keeping my DD in her Blvd until she is about 5 1/2 based on the way she is conforming to her growth chart. Our car seat can last until 70 lbs. I just have to keep an eye on her height.

Graco Nautilus 3 in 1. It actually converts into all the seats you need but we still have him in the harness. It really is the only carseat you need to buy. I love it and will be getting on for my DD.

i don't believe this to be true unless all the high back boosters that I looked at were lying 
they also make high back boosters with five pt harness that converts to be able to use a seat belt as they grow!

they also make high back boosters with five pt harness that converts to be able to use a seat belt as they grow!
NYS law states that in order to use booster with an adult seat belt, you must be 4 or 40lbs, so if your child is 5 and 30lbs, you can legally use a high back belt positioning booster rated for 30lbs. You can not use a high back belt positioning booster for a 30lb 3yr old under NYS law, that child must be in a 5 pt harness.
A seat with a 5 pt harness which has a harness that can be removed to use as a belt positioning booster is not really considered a booster, it is considered a combination seat.
Young children may be large enough to use a belt positioning booster, but lack the physical and mental maturity, which is why 5 point harnesses are recommended to be used until they're outgrown. I usually recommend beginning booster training for mature 5 year olds, with full time boostering when they outgrow the harness.

My DS just turned 3 and he's still in his My Ride 65 also. I dont have any immediate plans to change him yet but plan on visiting the car seat inspectors at Hassel Auto Body soon to have them check the seat out again. I have them do it every so often- and I'll ask them then about when I have to switch seats.
