Back from the RE
So I am back from Dr. San Roman. I was very nervous going in there but I was so pleasently surpised! The office was not packed and we hardly waited at all. I met Dr. San Roman and the other two doctors. EVERYONE there was soo nice and my personality clicked with everyone nicely. So I was really happy...
Here's the rundown.
They took 55 billion tubes of blood and they are testing all hormones and stuff. I should have most of the results tomorrow since they have an inhouse lab.. The send-out stuff will take a little longer.
They did a baseline sono and I have to go back next Wednesday (at 6:30 am) for another to see how my eggs are progressing. THENNN... drumroll.. we start IUI as soon as I get my !! He is predicting the weekend after next or early that week!
He feels like Dh's count is pretty good and that we should be concerned only with his motility and morphology at this point. He had 2 SA's so we don't need to do a 3rd. He thinks that we should have a nice count after the wash and as long as it is over 5 million motile sperm we should not need more that one IUI each cycle. But that is a decision that will be made when the wash is done.
We are doing unmedicated for the first 3 cycles and then we will re-evaluate. (unless the blood tests show something different). I have fairly regular cycles and I have been pg before (m/c in Early Oct., we have been trying for a year this month). So I guess pending all the bloodwork and sono's there is no real cause for concern about me O'ing on my own. Plus I have a strong family history of twins so we kind of need to consider that when deciding what drugs to use. He mentioned 3 levels of IUI.. 1. Unmedicated 2. Clomid (10%chance of multiples but more for me because of family history) 3. More meds. We didn't talk about that one right now but he did mention increased chances of quads and such DH nearly fell of his chair
Then after 3 cycles we will start to consider medicated IUI's or surgery to correct DH's varicociles.
He also mentioned that he is concerned that I might have a progesterone (sp?) issue because I usually spot for a few days before my AF and last month I spotted until CD11. So I think they did a bunch of hormone tests now and they will test the progesterone again after I Ovulate.
I asked about the HSG and he doesn't want that right now. He says that because I have been pg, and because I don't have any of the risk factors for blocked tubes that he would like to wait until month 3 to consider that.
So it sounds like I am a "go" for IUI's and if there is not success after 3 tries we will re-evalauate drugs. surgery for dh and an hsg.
For everyone.. and some for us I am excited to try this route and see where it leads us!
Thanks for all your support and advice so far. I am sure I will need more as this continues!
