I'm really worried and concerned...

I'm really starting to get worried where I just want to cry. DS has been having restless sleep for about a week. Usually the first thing we think is that he's teething. His hands are in his mouth all the time and he really chomps down on the teethers. Fine...but now nothing is getting better. He's still having some restless nights. He's a toss and turner to begin with but he always settles down. Now he does it non-stop and can't seem to settle down. When I originally posted about this one of the responses was because we co-sleep. But that cannot be it because now as it turns out DS has pink eye. I've been noticing a yellow discharge. Doctor didn't say anything about the dark eyes, only that he has pink eye and he prescribed drops to give him for a week. But the darkness around the eyes haven't looked better since going to the doctor's.

Is it possible that the pink eye has also been a cause for the discomfort?

I've tried tylenol and motrin because i'm thinking it's the pain of teething that's causing the restlessness. But I can't keep giving him medicine. It's already been a little over a week. I've tried putting him to bed earlier so he can get extra sleep but he's so restless that he can't fall asleep and it takes him about 45 mins to fall asleep. His schedule is all over the place right now, cuz i've been letting him sleep later. He'll take a 2 hour nap but now lately he's been waking up crying cuz something is bothering him. But nothing seems to help. How long can he go on with these dark circles? At this point I fear that they will never go away, even when he has a good nights rest.

It's starting to stress me out...

The only good thing is that he's still acting like himself throughout the day. I thought he'd be really cranky during the day from the restless nights but he's fine and he's eating and all...

Re: I'm really worried and concerned...

I think the difference between the busy and distracting day makes him seem fine but at night when there are no distractors he is affected by the discomfort of teething & pink eye. Unfortunately at this age...teething can go on....and on....and on.....

I totally understand your concerns but I think he'll be fine. I'm sure the dark circles will dissipate with time. He probably just needs some consecutive nights of peaceful sleep. He will get those as he starts to feel better.

For you, I send lots ofChat Icon 's. Being a parent is certainly not easy, especially when there isn't much to do to help the situation. Hang in there!!!

Did the Hyland's or Humphrey's teething tablets seem to help?

I think the discomfort could most certainly be making him restless.

Re: I'm really worried and concerned...

If you are very worried, then call the doctor and discuss your concerns with him/her, or bring DS back to the doctor.

About the sleep issues - it can definitely be teething, and the only reason you are noticing it so much is because you are co-sleeping.

Trust me the teething issues can last a long time, we are going on about 6-7 weeks of not sleeping through the night, because of her teeth

Re: I'm really worried and concerned...

It's totally natural and normal for your baby to go through different phases, including many weeks of restless nights, particularly when they are teething, or when they are about to reach a new milestone. Your baby will be fine - he won't suffer tremendously from a lack of sleep. Really, in this instance, there's not much you can do other than be patient and wait the phase out.

Yeah - anyones can when you aren't getting enough sleep.
It isn't constant though - cause she has good nights and bad nights.

Like I said, if you are concerned, please call your doctor. He will know what is best for your DS than we will

Re: I'm really worried and concerned...

I would definitely talk to your ped.

Do you still co-sleep? I found that both DD and DH and I slept much better once she was in her own room. You don't feel and hear every little thing that they do. Just something you might want to think about.

I know and he probably should be in his own room but then I know that I would be in there watching him. Cuz sometimes the tossing and turning wakes him and he'll just lie there and not say anything and he won't fall back asleep until I am with him...

And getting those eye drops in his eyes are tough. He screams bloody murder. I hope I did it right. My mom lives next door so later on i'll have her help me.

That bottle is so small that I hope it lasts me a week. Because DH forgot to add DS to the prescription card (don't know how that happened) I had to pay $69.00...for a tiny little bottle. I called the insurance so that's how I know that his name was never added. They are going to send us forms to fill out. Then I gotta send it back to them with a copy of his Birth certificate and the receipt of the purchase and they said they will refund us the money...minus the co-payment, which is $15.00.

DH bought a Vaporizer instead of a humidifier. What's the difference between the two? Can we still use the vaporizer for the congestion?

I wouldn't - unless he is having an allergic reaction to something.

Did you call the doctor????

i would not. benedryl can actually have the opposite effect on children and make them hyper.

like the other posters have said, this is a normal occurance that will pass.

according to webmd:

Humidifiers and vaporizers add moisture to the air, making it less drying to your mouth, throat, and nose. A humidifier produces a cool mist, and a vaporizer puts out hot steam.

I really think you have to accept that this is just a normal developmental phase and will pass. I'm sure part of his discomfort is due to his pink eye, and other than giving him his meds, there is not much else you can.

ETA: I would not give him Benadryl without the doctor's okay. Not only can it make some children hyper, it may have a bad reaction to the meds in his eye drops.

The doctor had actually suggested using a humidifier...

Did you get the prescription from CVS? And has it been 10 days? The same thing happened to us with those eyedrops (they were $79.99!) if you fax those forms and call they will add him immediatly and then you can get the money back from CVS if it has been less than 10 days.

And how much are you putting in? DS had pink eye and we used the drops for 10 days, 3x per day and there is DEFINATELY more than half left in the (TINY) bottleChat Icon
