2 year old - not eating! Help!

My 2 year old used to be a great eater until a few months ago. It has progressively gotten worse. Things that he use to like (yogurt, oatmeal, etc) he refuses to try. I swear there are days that all he eats is some goldfish crackers. He recently had a ped appt and although he only gained 11 ounces in 6 mos, my ped was not alarmed. He told me that this is a stage and to keep offering all food groups and eventually, he will eat it. I don't remember going through this with my older son. I was giving him pediasure but my ped said to stop giving him that as it is probably filling him up and adding to the problem.

Has anyone gone through this and if so, how long did it last? It is so frustrating! Chat Icon

Re: 2 year old - not eating! Help!

DD is 21 months old and we just got over a picky phase of a few weeks long. There were days when all she had was cheerios or goldfish or what have you.

Make him hungry. DD was refusing to eat lunch and dinner. But would snack. I stopped snack and only offered some fruit at lunch (that was the only she wold eat at that time) when dinner rolled around she would eat a little. Now a few weeks later we are back to eating still limited stuff but at least some proteins and potatoes.

Cut back on liquids/snacks. DD gets a cup of milk before bed. SO if she didn't eat dinner at least she had milk. If she wants a snack before I give it to her but it's not often.

DS is 2.5 & we are just coming out if a picky stage that started around 2. He use to ve such a great eater & like yours, there are days he eats nothing. I always offer him the things I know he likes. The one good aspect is I can almost always get fruit if veggies into him.

Just recently. He started to eat most consistently but he does not eat much. He just had 1/4 of a 1/2 of waffle but I know in about an your or ei, he will eat an Apple or grapes. Dinner is still a fight. There are nights he eats nothing, so i give him milk before bed & 1tbsp peanut butter

DS is turning 2 tomorrow and the last month or so, he has been incredibly picky! He used to eat EVERYTHING! Now he turns away all the things that used to be his favorites, yogurt, strawberries, peas...It's so frustrating. I really hope it changes because I hate wasting all the food I try to give to him.
