1st brithday party catering help
I'm beginning to plan and budget for my DD's 1st birthday. It'll be in the early fall, outdoors (probably partially tented) in the backyard and we're thinking it'll be about 60 people. Of those 60 people, there will probably be 15 - 20 kids. I'm thinking it's way too many people to grill burgers and hot dogs. We're tossing around the idea of having it catered. What would your ideal menu be for a party like this?

1st brithday party catering help
I would do Hero's, cold salads, hot pasta, and chicken nuggets for the kids. Keep it simple and easy.
I am having my sons in September but indoors and will be doing something similar.

Re: 1st brithday party catering help
My SIL just did her DD's 1st birthday party. It was catered... eggplant rollatini chicken francese skirt steak salad penne alla vodka rolls
This was in a hall. For outside you can do casual depending on what you're looking for. We've done outside pool parties catered and did a cutlet and fresh moz and roasted peppers sub, baked ziti, salads, rolls, etc. WE always do nuggets and fries too for the kids.

Totally agree. I wanted to do pizza and heroes and DH won't hear it. So we're doing hot italian food and it's so much money!

Re: 1st brithday party catering help
We did our DD's 1st bday party in our backyard and catered it. We got- a 4 foot grilled chicken hero, and full trays of sausage and peppers, penne ala vodka, eggplant rollatini and chicken fingers & french fries for the kids. We had so much leftover and the hero was the only thing that fully went.

We have a large 4th of July party with about that amount of people and we always BBQ hot dogs and hamburgers with no problem. You can always hire a waitress team to serve and BBQ at the same time.

Literally exactly this. Were moving in a few weeks and DS 1st bday is 8/30 so its outside, and this is my plan for catering.

Tom Nash from Ace Caterers!!! Love him!! He caters all my parties. You can't beat his prices. and for an extra cost his wife Barbara can be hired to waitress.

This.
I worked in catering for a long time and the pasta and chicken dishes were the most popular. Usually penne vodka and chicken francese (not my favorites but, tend to be the most popular).

I used Fireside commack for our catering for DD"s first birthday party. Food was awesome and you can request someone to bbq for you.

We used John Moore Deli in Bellmore for several parties at my house. They do an awesome job. Also, their BBQ package is terrific if you were looking into something like that. Great bang for the buck.

We do hamburgers and hot dogs every year. The BBQ will hold about 30 hamburgers at a time. We also keep some trays of food available as well. I don't cater, we do it all at home. But it is manageable. People tend to eat in shifts, especially if kids are involved - like kid and dad eat then mom eats when kid is done. It's just the way it works. You won't have everyone sitting down at once.

I would still do burgers and hot dogs. Make a salad and order a hero plus mac n cheese or pizza for the kids too.

1st brithday party catering help
My family doesn't really like heros. Usually for parties we go to the panini place and they do a nice assortment of all different kinds cut in half. Salads on the side.

This. I didn't know heroes were still a thing till LIF.
We've always gotten sandwich/wrap platters with salads. That way there's usually something for everyone.

Re: 1st brithday party catering help
i agree that grilling for 60 people is difficult. I would probably cater half and try to make half.
If you could make 1-2 trays of pasta before hand, penne vodka or baked ziti since that is pretty easy and can get very costly to cater i would do that.
I would also grill some veggies before hand to put on a tray with some fresh mozzerlla balls.
Then i would order a hero, eggplant rollatini, and chicken franchese or chicken marsala.
maybe make a loaded potato salad also to put out.
For the kids i probably just order 2-3 pizzas to keep it simple.
