1st birthday stress!!!
We did my youngest's party at the American legion in port Jefferson station- it was somewhere between $250-300. For us, it was worth it. "Immediate" family to us is our siblings, parents, grandparents and our aunts and uncles & cousins, which is quite a lot people. Our families are all very close. We did our first kidsparties at my in-laws house, but by the time #3 came along, the family was just too big. It was worth it. My husband is a chef so he did all the cooking and I did desserts.

I just do parents, grandparents and siblings to the christening and I keep it the same for birthdays. Right now we are staying in dh's parents house saving money to buy our own house after a rental fell through. Dh has a big family and I could never fit my family and his in a house party. I think I might do nice communions for our boys. This way they can understand and enjoy a celebration in their honor.

We just rented. Hall for $350 for our sons 1st birthday we do big 1st birthdays in my family big family and friends its always about 100people

To me it was just a huge waste of money
We did something small with immediate family only - pizza and cake.

Yes.
We will be doing something small at home with grand parents, dh's siblings and ds's godparents.
Our family tends to do bigger christenings. I love parties, but I couldn't imagine doing a shower, christening and first birthday. I have four kids though and even thought it was a lot to do big christenings
