1 year old won't take sippy cup
What is a good transition cup for a 1 year old who only wants bottles. He refuses to take a sippy. I've tried the nuby click tight soft spout, as well as play text hard spout. HELP!! He throws them at me lol
ETA- I the purpose of the sippy for ,me is to introduce him to water. I still plan on giving him his bottles with milk. No plans taking those away ... He's my baby, will be on bottle till he's 20 hahah

1 year old won't take sippy cup
I just picked up 2 sippy cups for ds who is turning 7 months... he picks them up and puts them in his mouth properly but can't suck the drink down... I picked up the "born free" brand I think it was.

Re: 1 year old won't take sippy cup
It may not be the cup. He may not be ready to give up the bottle.
1 year old is still young.
I made the mistake of trying to take away DD"s bottles at 12 months. NOT a good idea. She was a mess. A hot mess. She would scream and cry and thrash and almost convulse like a druggie going through withdrawals. I tried all different types of cups, No good. None of them.
She refused to drink a thing.
It was awful. God awful. I felt like she was going through trauma.
I finally gave up and let her have her bottles back.
At 15 months we tried again and she was 100% fine. No crying. No screaming. Took the cup and never once looked back.
My advice- if none of the cups you try seems to work, he may not be ready yet. And that's ok.
12 months is just an arbitrary number. No rule says they HAVE to switch at that age.

We use these also. DD has been using this since she was 7 months, no idea if it was the cup or her sheer love of food that made the transition easy, haha.

Re: 1 year old won't take sippy cup
DD wouldn't take a sippy until we tried this one. I think she liked it bc it has a nipple. From then on she moved on pretty easily and quickly to regular spouted cups.
I still can't get her to drink her milk out of one though. Water only.

Re: 1 year old won't take sippy cup
We went to regular cups. It took a little patience, but both kids got the hang of it pretty easily. Made the transition shortly after 1 year old.

Thanks everyone. I'm not even looking to take his bottle away, just want him to drink a little water from a sippy and he hates them all.

Re: 1 year old won't take sippy cup
I agree... I don't think he's ready for the sippy yet. I tried around 12 months and my dd wasn't no part of it. I tried again around 14 months and she was more interested. Don't worry... Just try again in a few weeks

Re: 1 year old won't take sippy cup
My DS never took to a sippy cup. Instead we went straight to a straw cup. I like the munchkin one.

Re: 1 year old won't take sippy cup
we went with a straw cup and have had success with both kids. we use the playtex but i find they leak after a while. we started by giving ds the straw cup with water at each meal and saved his bottle for formula. he just turned one and now no longer wants a bottle! it just takes time...let them play, throw it around, etc...they will get it

Re: 1 year old won't take sippy cup
Maybe try a straw cup, and just for water initially. He may still want the milk in the bottle.

Re: 1 year old won't take sippy cup
When I tried at 12 months, DS was not interested at all, couldn't get the hang of it, still wanted to suck on the bottle, so I didn't push it but I'd attempt every once in a while. Around 15 months, I just started giving him the sippy cup every single time & he never saw a bottle again & he was totally find with it. So I think it might just be a matter of not being ready to give up the bottle.

Thanks again. It's more that I want him to drink some water. Not taking bottles away anytime soon. He still gets milk in a bottle but for in between I wanted him to drink water.

1 year old won't take sippy cup
It took a few months but i skipped the sippy cup and went straight to a straw cup. It took like 2 months. first dd would just chew on the straw. Then she would sip but spit it out Then she would sip and let it dribble out all over herself Then she sipped and actually drank...
It was a process but it was worth it. She was on her bottle till 15 months. But drank water from her cup. I gave it to her every single day at every meal.
