1 week old poop issues
My son is 8 days old and formula fed (similac advanced). He was pooping 4+ times a day and yesterday he only pooped 2x and today not at all.
He seems to strain a little bit, but not excessively. He is burping and farting like normal. Sleeping and eating regularly.
Is this normal or something. I should be worried about?

Similac can be binding. We had a problem w dd and switched to gerber good start gentle as per our ped.

I have a can of good start which I got as a sample. Should I ask the dr abot switching?

Yes, I would ask the ped b4 switching. It might take a few days for dc to get used to the new formula and the poop might be green.

DS1 started on Similac Advanced and initially did fine but by 8 days old was constipated. It was not fun and he was very uncomfortable. We wound up switching formulas because of that. See if he's uncomfortable and if he is, you can try stimulating the area with a rectal thermometer (that's been lubricated), the "thermometer trick," to see if it helps him go. I think some people use a q-tip but i'm not sure.

1 week old is really too early to be looking for patterns. 1 day without a bowel movement is pretty normal for babies. I wouldn't worry, and the dr will say the same thing.

When my dd was born she only pooped like every 3 days. Ped said it was normal, but we switched to gentlease whic made things better

Thanks. I did try the qtip trick and he went. I will keep an eye on him and make sure everything is ok. He goes to the dr again on Thursday
