5 week old sleep issues
DD is 5 wks old and been pretty good at eat/sleep "routine". But the past 3-4 nights it has been a challenge getting her back to sleep at night- she is awake & I try to get her back to sleep but it takes about an hour. Sometimes she will nod off while I am holding her but as soon as I put her down (be it in RNP or carseat or crib) she wakes up. Then it's a back & forth game every 10 min to rock her, put pacifier back in, etc until she is asleep.
She is EFF taking 4-5 ozs every 3-4 hrs
This is really taking a toll on me as I am alone 3-4 nights & lucky if I get 2 hours blocks of sleep at night.
I'm worried b/c I go back to work in a few weeks and afraid I'll be a total zombie at work.
And Suggestions/recommendations???
I'm desperate TIA!

I'll be staking this post. Lol. My one girl does this once in awhile now at 3 weeks and I'm dreading it happening more often. I think I'll break out the swing when it happens.
When do they bein sleeping like 6 hour stretches!?! Lol Can't wait for that!

Re: 5 week old sleep issues
It frustrates me b/c sometimes during the day she sleeps so good - in swing or PNP.
Two nights she slept for 6-7 hrs. Two nights in 5 wks

We have a swing (hand me Down) that is on the 1st floor (all bedrooms are on 2nd flr). I've contemplated sleeping in TV room (where swing is) but I know I won't sleep comfortably, if at all (we only have a love seat & chair in that room). And, the batteries just crapped out in t so it doesn't swing - need to get my hands on some new batteries.

5 week old sleep issues
Probably things you're already doing, but swaddling, white noise, making sure it's dark and quiet, don't change her diaper unless she's poopy (I used to check with a flashlight so I didn't have to turn on the light), and even just putting my hand on her belly when I first put her down helped her stay asleep. It could be a growth spurt which should only last a few days. A few weeks will hopefully make a big difference though.

We've been saying for the past week we need to get a sound machine for her room (haven't been out yet to get one since storm though).
We were swaddling, but now she fights it and cries when we do it and 95% of the time, she breaks her arms free (whether its with a blanket or the Velcro swaddle wrap thingie)
I'll def try not changing if we don't have to and the hand on tummy. Thank you!!!

Re: 5 week old sleep issues
I would do a double swaddle really tight and white noise. If that does not work do all of that with the swing. For a while I was swaddling with a blanket and then putting the swaddle me over it. Good luck!!

Have you thought of moving the swing upstairs possible into your room? If she sleeps in the swing why not just put it in your room so you can get some sleep. I love the snug a bunny swing because it plugs into the wall. No worrying about batteries dieing.

Just a thought, but I got my white noise machine on amazon and always order batteries from there too. Might be easier with these crazy times we're living in!

I always swaddled with arms out. just swadding under arms, he didn't like being too tight, sounds like yours crying/breaking free. swadding under arms still gives comforting feeling. all you are doing is exactly what you need to do as well as the other suggestions posted like noise ect. but unfortunately I feel from my experience and what i have read its just the age, the older your dc gets the longer they'll sleep. mine did nt sleep till like 3-5 months when I put the rnp. I woke up every 2 hours for months!!! It should be a tiny better by the time you go back to work and it will continue to improve. I never drank coffee regularly in all my life until I returned to work after maternity leave.
