1 hour glucose test question
Last pregnancy I could have sworn I fasted. They told me no eating/ drinking for 1 hours prior for this one.
What is something that would be wise to eat that mornomg of the test
For DD 1 I fasted. I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour.

1 hour glucose test question
I had the one hour twice once during my First trimester and once in the second- I did not Fast for either. I ate a regular breakfast. You should eat what ever type of breakfast you normally eat.

I fasted for the 1hr and failed and then fasted for the 3hr and passed. I wish I had eaten normally for the 1hr cause it really screwed me up.

Re: 1 hour glucose test question
OB told me to fast the night before since I was taking the test in the morning. I could have dinner, but no snacks afterward.

Re: 1 hour glucose test question
I fasted for the 1 hour but I was told I didn't have to. I failed it and took the 3 hour. I suggest just following what the doc says.

1 hour glucose test question
My doctor told me to fast after 12, midnight before the test. I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. I have heard of people eating a high protein breakfast such as eggs beforehand. I definitely wouldn't eat any carbs, fruit, or juice beforehand!

First time they had me fast this pregnancy I was told I could eat. I should find out the results this week. I failed both my first pregnancy. But I passed my first one hour this pregnancy

Re: 1 hour glucose test question
Mine is on Thursday and I have instructions to NOT fast. They said eat as usual, take the orange drink (then you cannot drink or eat anything) and get blood drawn w/in the hour.
My appt is 10:30 a.m. -- I'm having breakfast (or I'll pass out). Probably going to have some oatmeal w/berries and honey.
My doctor told me that if you normally eat carbs you should be a-okay! Usually those that fail are ones that avoid carbs and it's just a big "hit' to your system.
I'm having twins so I'm just anticipating on failing.

Re: 1 hour glucose test question
I'm doing it Thursday afternoon and was told not to eat anything for the hour leading up to it. That's how it was handled with DD#1 as well and I passed. Maybe there are different versions of how to administer it?

If you have GD, and I had it twice, even if you eat beforehand it will NOT matter what specifically you eat.............you have GD. It's going to show in the blood whether you had a carb or avoided a carb that morning.
GD isn't like regular diabetes, it's COMPLETELY dependent on your fluctuating hormones throughout pregnancy. I had GD REALLY bad with my DD and even with diet AND insulin the severity of my GD and how my body reacted to certain foods was constantly changing as my pregnancy progressed. What worked at 27 weeks didn't necessarily work at 29 weeks or 32 weeks. Everything was always being adjusted to try and control the GD.
If you have GD, it's going to show up. Not really sure what you mean by your body "taking a hit" if you avoid a carb but I can assure you, you're not tricking anyone into thinking you don't have GD if you do. It's out of your control. Eating, not eating, avoiding specific foods won't change your fate with the test.
And don't lose hope, just because you're having twins doesn't mean you'll have GD. It's likely you'll be fine. Good luck.

I meant that if you avoid certain foods it's not going to matter b/c if you have GD you have it -- regardless.
We're both saying the same thing, I just didn't explain it properly. Thank you!
