so I have some downtime at work today, and I'm reading all about TTC using donor sperm (From anonymous/ sperm bank).
we havent gone to the Dr yet, we have been setting up some appts to do so (cardiologist, gyn, etc)
I thought we'd be spending $2-300 a shot or a month.
Well the more I read... people suggest trying 3x per cycle @ "washed" sperm so we are talking $1000-1200. TIMES however many months....
Then I read some info re: birth certificates and even though we are legally married and can put both names on, they are state granted... so there are a lot of legalities federally where we may have to do a 2nd parent adoption ~$2-3000 with lawyer fees etc.
Then, if we have infertility issues... they arent covered by our insurance. $$$$ 10,20,30K.....
How do people do this!!!!

Yeah, I have no idea... that's one of the biggest reasons why I have been holding off on going to a specialist.

Re: $$$$$$$
I'm sure there are people who can give better advice then me, but it almost sounds like it might be more cost effective to just skip right to ivf with sperm donor , the price difference wouldn't be that much and your chances should be greater.
ETA Nevermind most of this, I RE-read, thought you mean $1200x 3 each cycle.
Even just $1200 is a lot , and the adaption part stinks!

Shop around - prices range from practice to practice. 7,000 was one, another was 1,500. Ridiculous

Re: $$$$$$$
Trying to get preggo is expensive - I think ive spent over $5,000 on trying this past year - and I just started seeing a RE recently - but you may be lucky and get PG right away - gotta think positive. I have a GF who her and her partner used a friend donor because of the multiple costs involved with frozen/donor sperm - they even did at home "turkey baster insems" and got pregnant within 2 months.....so you never know.....try to stay and good luck!!!

I highly recommend setting up a consult with a reproductive endocrinologist. They can give you the best information. Most practices will work with you in terms of payment. I ended up conceiving naturally but I did discuss in detail all of my options. As it turned out although my insurance does not cover fertility it does cover IUI (just not IVF). It is worth calling your insurance and asking specific questions. You may be able to get somethings covered (my insurance also covered some of the meds so I had the RE give me a list of what she commonly prescribed and called by prescription coverage). Good luck.
