Re: Dog urine and grass, any solution?

you have dogs...they pee...on grass...it's par for the course.

If you don't like it, take them for a walk on a leash everytime they need to go out. I think giving them a pill to prevent them from yellowing your grass is ridiculous.

Why don't you train them to pee in one area?

Not everyone can walk their dogs everytime. And not everyone wants to see huge yellow patches of dead grass in their yards, esp if their yards are small. And training a dog to pee in one area is ideal, but not always doable.

You think it's ridiculous so that's fine, you don't use them. To each is own. Chat Icon And it's not a pharmaceutical medicine, it's a herbal type product, and you give it just the same as giving your dog a treat a day. If my vet says they are safe, then I am going to use them.

I don't really care if you think it is ridiculous. I was asking if anyone had used the pills and if not, what other people do.

I have an 8 week old child, I would love to take my pup out for a walk everytime he needs to go like I used to, but thats not happening and as far as training him to go in one area, yeah I would like to do that to, but again, my DD kind of takes up alot of my time. Good for you that you have all the time in the world to walk your dog and train them to pee in one spot, that is not my reality. Thanks for your help Chat Icon

ETA: I'll check back with you in November and see if you're opinion has changed Chat Icon

Um...my backyard has yellow polka dotted designs all over it...I was just offering suggestions if it bothered me...Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have heard of tomato juice in your dog's food, but I can't imagine any dog eating food with tomato juice. And your little white baby would be all covered in it. Also, I was always afraid if I did that and changed my girls' PH, she may be more prone to infection (she always got them as a baby).

I don't plan to try them until I ask my vet b/c of my girl's past history with UTIs.

Since we had the back yard re sodded(sp?), I trained Kasey to pee and poop in the area of the yard that has pebbles. She is allowed on the grass after she does her business. Only took about 3 days to train her to do this. Of course we can't just let her out in the yard. We have to watch her do her thing but then she can be left outside if we need to go in.

.

How did you train her to go there? I know my dogs would NEVER be trained in 3 days, let alone if ever.

Re: Dog urine and grass, any solution?

Is it customary that pee turns the grass yellow?

I ask cause none of our grass is yellow in our back yard where she pees - if anything, the grass grows quicker and we have to mow every 2 - 3 days it seems.

Re: Dog urine and grass, any solution?

Scout's pee does not turn the grass yellow when he eats holistic dog food that I get for him on-line.

We ran out, he's been eating Eukanuba, and suddely we have yellos patches in the yard.

We do take him out for walks, to the park, etc but sometimes he goes in the yard, and now we know where.

I wouldn't give him a pill for it tho, that's just me. I plan to get him back on the holistic dog food.

Re: Dog urine and grass, any solution?

My FIL hates the yellow patches....whenever the dog would go on the lawn he would pull out the hose and "water" the area she peed in and that usually works. YOu can try that if your hose is somewhat handy

That does work for us. Unfortunately, our hose isn't that handy though!
