I hate to fly, and I just got back from an overseas trip, so I totally relate. And my flight home was miserable- there was so much turbulence and it really unnerved me.
Statistically, though, you really are safer in a plane- even with these recent crashes, it's still a tiny percentage.
Someone once posted on a message board that if you feel anxious while flying, you should look at the flight attendants. If they're going about their business then things are probably ok. When we were in all that turbulence they were serving snacks and didn't seem bothered by it. Then the pilot put the seatbelt on and they went and sat down too. But you could tell it was routine for them. That made me feel a little better. You'll be fine!
